Utahime tenses, nearly giving her silence to his name as she draws near him. Mid-step, she sees herself as an intruder and she finds herself averting her gaze to offer him privacy.
She turns her attention by turning away from him before he can notice, arranging objects on the table top to seem busy, as if she hasn't just witnessed him waking up in a panic.

There a place near and dear to my heart for Gintama, and while I love the comedy, the really heart-rending bits of the show are the parts that really seem to stick out the most. This fic really captures the feeling of the show, and a very realistic circumstance that Gintoki could've run across on it, plus it's a dilemma I think many of us can empathize with. Also, how can you not adore Otose's mom-vibes? I love her.

Slowly, Gudrid walked towards the place where the boy -Thorfinn- was sitting. His face was empty of anything, his eyes down as he stared tiredly at the wood.
"Uh… hello," she said quietly, leaning down to speak to him. He said nothing, making no acknowledgement of her presence whatsoever.
"So, you're Thorfinn?"
Again, nothing.She frowned again, wondering if there was anything she could do. He seemed like he'd been through something pretty rough, although she couldn't imagine what. From what Leif said, he seemed to have no problem communicating before. Now he was nearly catatonic. She couldn't help but feel sorry for him.
