His eager words tapered off, and his light expression hardened with focus at the screen. King turned his gaze away in respectful nonchalance, electing to give the kid his privacy. The youth and their phones—there was no use in fighting it.
“Dad,” Purple said, and the tremor in his voice made King’s stomach drop. His eyes jerked back to the kid, meeting his the second he lifted them from his phone. His face was tight with urgency. “We need to get to the gang’s.”

Summary
What started out as a simple sickness has suddenly turned into something much worse: sudden discoloration, random glitches, and bursts of burning pain and indescribable anger from a code error that somehow made its way into Red’s body. Second wants to help; it would break him to know Red was hurt and couldn’t stop this “sickness” from hurting him - but there seems to be more to this odd “virus” than meets the eye.

Yellow jumped, spinning around and realizing it was possibly the worst person—no, the worst person she could've been stuck with was sitting there, at the desk of a lab she for once did not want to be in. She hadn’t realized who it was, she’d seen the fuzzy red and motions of a person, and hadn’t thought much of it. There was no mistaking that voice.
"Dark Lord." Yellow pressed her back against the seamless door, "You—what do you want?"

He feels it leave his body, pain tearing his skin as it crawls its way out.
He tries to look behind, so that there’s at least a witness to his friends’ murderer, but he can’t make anything out. All he sees is a blinding white light accompanied by a terrifying sound.
And then it’s gone.

When Rocky wakes up after Adrian, he's relieved they're both alive, but immediately knows that something is off with Grace. He's having trouble breathing, sleeping a lot, and spiking fevers. As much as Grace wants to blame it on lung irritation from the ammonia in Rocky's atmosphere, Rocky knows he's downplaying it, and it's not going to work.
However, before he can actually do anything about it, the ship's power goes out. Taumoeba have gotten into the fuel and eaten all the astrophage, leaving them with no choice but to steal from the beetles.
Which are on the outside of the ship.
Which means two EVAs and a lot of lab work for Grace, all while his condition declines from what's quickly turning into a serious health problem. All Rocky can do is make sure he has what he needs and try to take care of him as best he can from afar, hoping they can get to safety before Grace's health is too fragile to recover.- Language:

Roche limit: the distance from a celestial body within which a second celestial body, held together only by its own force of gravity, will disintegrate because the first body's tidal forces exceed the second body's self-gravitation.
As the distance between the Hail Mary and Erid shrinks, as the language and cultural barriers disappear, Grace's health deteriorates and Rocky's worries skyrocket. Scurvy, cabin fever, malnutrition, tension and arguments – their friendship is put to the test when they are faced with challenges they cannot science their way out of. When a sudden Taumoeba emergency disrupts their journey just as they are about to reach Erid's radio range, they are forced to take a detour to Threeworld's Petrova-line to prevent Grace from starving to death.
