Immediate post-canon scene after the military takes in the party in the finale, after El dies.-
He was tired. He was exhausted. He wanted to hurt everyone and cry himself to sleep. Dustin hated the military, El was dead, and they still took everyone in. Now, he was away from Steve, and he felt physically ill. He wanted to throw up. He wondered if throwing up on the interviewer would convince them to let him see Steve. The room they were stuck in was bleak, small, gray, and closing in on him. Dustin sat across from a man in military attire, a recorder in front of him, sitting on the metal table. They’d been sitting here for what felt like days, though in reality it was most likely hours. Two more men with weapons guarded the door, standing there, blank faces. Dustin wished they’d drop dead, because he wanted out.
The interviewer sighed. Dustin had forgotten the man’s name and didn’t care to remember it. “Can you describe in more detail what happened?”

“Why?” Mike is asking because he still hasn’t processed the ugly fact of the matter, reasonably so considering how bizarre it is to witness someone be so braindead in public, but Lucas would like an answer that addresses the other type of why. Like, why is Conner Marrigan such a fucking asshole?
“Clearly, uh, Marrigan wanted to have a costume no one else would think of.” Eddie chimes in. For once he sounds almost nervous, though Lucas has no idea why. “I figured I’d let you know, considering your allegiance to Harrington and also the general fact that it’s a pretty fucked up thing to do.”

He hadn’t even seen the guy since he graduated last year, save for a few times he’d passed the ice cream store at the mall. But now Steve was barreling into his trailer and sweeping this random, redheaded kid into a tight hug that left Eddie feeling extremely lost, hopelessly confused, and— most of all— totally in the way.

“Who was?” Steve pressed gently, frowning. He couldn’t really think of anyone he wouldn’t speak to. Not anyone who might be calling here. Will’s answer was too quiet to be heard. “... Who?”
“Your father,” he repeated a little louder, starting to look miserable. “I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t have hung up the phone like that, but… he really hurt you, Steve! He shouldn’t get whatever he wants just because he thinks he’s some big important person. You’re important, not him. I know I should have given you the phone, but I don’t want him to be able to hurt you anymore!”
“Oh…”
