To an outside observer, the smile on Gojo’s face would have seemed out of place. He had, after all, just been thrown out of a three-story building, blasted by two at least First Grade curses, and subsequently removed his spotless hand from each of their chests in short succession. But more important than any of that, it was Friday. The one day Gojo could home to a dinner he didn’t have to make. The one day he didn’t have to worry about arranging for Megumi and Tsumiki’s pickup or activities after school. The one day when he felt completely at ease about the kids’ safety without him. It was Nanami day.

“The usual, Nanami-san?”
Nanami tugs at his tie. “Just Nanami,” he mutters under his breath, “is fine.”
Haibara’s head tilts to the side. “What’s that?” he asks.
“The usual,” Nanami says louder, “please.”
Haibara blinks. There’s something that dances in his eyes. “Coming right up, Nanami!”
Nanami pulls his eyes away and tugs at his tie again. His gaze trails to the street outside, and when he blinks, he almost thinks he sees a flash of pink dart behind a nearby lamppost. When he squints outside, though, there’s nothing to be seen except a few meandering passerbys.
“Strange,” he murmurs to himself. The familiar noise of shuffling paper against glass makes him glance back to the counter, where two baguettes in a paper bag are being slid over the glass surface.
