Victor tipped his glass, and finished it. With a graceful gesture, he asked the bartender for another one. “So I’ve heard,” he said. “Begs the question as to why you’re still talking to me.”
Oh believe me, I will soon make you stop talking.
“Maybe I just think you’re pretty,” Eli replied. It was, in part, an attempt at regaining control of the situation, of making his cover believable — lust made people allow all kinds of bad manners, or so Eli had heard — but he was also curious to see how Victor would react.
The man's lips stretched in a smile that could only be described as dangerous. “Now that, I can believe,” he said, the flirtation like the edge of a knife. “But I don’t think you’re the type to care much for pretty things.”
AU: Victor Vale is in the business of pain relief. Eli Ever is in the business of killing EOs. Tonight, specifically, he's quite intent on killing Victor.

Kaz stilled. He could tell it was not the wooden point of a stake — not a risk, then. The shocking thing was that someone had snuck up on him. She’d fed him (or at least, she’d made a valiant effort), given him syrup for the cough (threats of bodily harm had once again been involved), and put a damp cloth over his forehead to help with the fever. Now she could only watch over him, and hope he'd have the good sense to sleep soon.
“Anyone could stab me,” he complained, his voice rough from coughing. “I’d die in bed, sweaty, with my nose running. Despicable.”
“I’m offended,” Inej replied calmly, “that you think this imaginary assassin could manage to touch you while I’m here.”
Kaz pulled down his arm.
The expression he revealed was complicated to decipher. There was a hint of mirth, almost a touched smile on his lip. But his eyes were pained.
“I don’t think that,” he said, quietly.
Kaz falls ill. Inej attempts to take care of him.
