Summary
After nearly dying in a burning building, Hyunjin gains the ability to manipulate fire. In a world where only two percent of the population is capable of developing powers and most of that two percent still don't meet the other conditions to do so, Hyunjin is an anomaly and at first wants to keep that under wraps. But a large-scale criminal titled 'Demon', a villain with powers over the darkness and chill of an abyss, is only growing, only causing worse havoc to erupt over the once tranquil city. Hyunjin realizes that fire may be the only thing that can cancel out this villain's powers.
As he fights back, the city falls in love with him. He's called a hero, named by bystanders as 'Phoenix', idolized as the secret savior who could singlehandedly fight Demon, the only one who had a decent chance at defeating him.
Maybe the praise got to his head. Maybe he was over-confident from the start. Soon enough, Hyunjin's world begins to crumble under the weight of his title and the backlash of his attack on the most powerful villain in the city. With his sister's life suddenly on the line, Hyunjin is abruptly forced to become somewhat of a villain himself.

Summary
Hyunjin has watched his kingdom fall to its knees and choke under the boot of its inevitable conqueror, but he intends to break apart the present and the future. He plans to steal his kingdom back. To do so, he enlists the help of seven mercenaries whose skills are nothing short of legend, and gives them a post in his army.
Or rather: They attempt to lay siege to his castle, and he binds their souls to his with magic so old its incomprehensible to each of them.
Aeterna is a kingdom broken by betrayal and ego, kept alive by bloodshed and hatred. Hyunjin cannot save it or his people without risks, and the mercenaries won't see the end of the Empire's reign if they don't lend their strength to their best chance at survival. Despite the animosity which comes to them naturally, they work together, because their lives are based on necessity. They despise each other, but they need each other.
What Hyunjin couldn't have planned for was wanting them. Desperately. More than anything.
What does it matter what he wants, though, when he has a kingdom to save?
