When the Great Papyrus begins to feel a bit under the weather, at first, he thinks nothing of it. It’s probably a cold, nothing he can’t persevere through! But over time, wisps become tendrils, and tendrils become vines. His condition worsens, but he doesn’t want to burden anyone. He was fine. Some little sickness is nothing to the Great Papyrus!
The tightness he feels when Mettaton’s name alone is mentioned, however, perplexes him.
