Summary
In Edo Period Japan many men were sent to the famous Sado gold mines to die in the Shogunate's pursuit of precious metals. Some of the deaths were documented, sure, but what about all the men who fell someplace just out of reach, or lost their lamps a mile into the earth? This story details one of their fates, and it's certainly a much better one than dying.
