Summary
“Nat,” Lottie interrupts, sounding vaguely amused. “Is this something you want to try?”
“I asked you first,” Nat says petulantly.
Lottie is quiet for another moment. Half-hidden by her hair, Nat can see her ears slowly going red, the way they always do when she’s embarrassed.
“It’s not that I don’t want to,” Lottie says eventually, almost shy. “I’ve just never done it before.” A pause. “Like, been on the receiving end, I mean.”

“I’m not doing porn. Did Paul Thomas Anderson do porn? No.”
“He did Boogie Nights,” says Lottie. Nat snaps her fingers.
“Exactly, Van. He did Boogie Nights.”
“And this movie you’re making is going to be comparable in quality to Boogie Nights?” When Lottie and Natalie say nothing, Van sucks her teeth, nods, and keeps stocking. “That’s what I thought.”

“Don’t be sorry,” Natalie murmurs, her hands still outstretched but a bit closer to her own body now, growing confident that Lottie can hold her own as long as the brick remains sedentary. “You don’t remember me, do you?”
The corner of Lottie’s mouth turns upwards in the aftermath of a sick and twisted joke. Salt pricks at her eyes like fine-point needles. She meets Natalie’s gaze, her own leaning body making the two of them equal height. She smiles sadly.
