"I'm sorry."
Before he can make a run for it out of that alleyway, he's being body slammed into the brick wall. He groans loudly in pain as he's shouldered into the wall for a second time, just for good measure, cheek smashed into it and drawing blood. Then he's reprimanded with a gun pressed onto the side of his head and when he dares to look at his captor, he comes face to face with Lee Heeseung who, interestingly enough, is staring at him with intrigue more than revulsion.
"What the hell are you?" He tilts his head.
Before he could answer, a strangled sob sounds from the corner of the alleyway. There, Jay stands over the dead body, tears in his eyes as he grits, "He's a goddamn murderer, that's what he is."
Accused of murder and his name written in bold on a supernatural mafias hitlist, Nishimura Riki must prove himself innocent with the help of his childhood best friend turned detective, a cop who absolutely hates his guts, an incubus, and a demon who is shit at his job all while battling his own nature.

Summary
The flashing lights settle on red, painting Maki like the devil himself and coating Nicholas in a velvet fabric of hot shame and embarrassment licking his skin like a flame ready to burn.
"How's that?" Maki murmurs, staring down at him as if he really doesn't know, and that's all it takes for it to burn bright.
Rolling his eyes, Nicholas pushes Maki off of him and stands, dusting himself up and totally not avoiding Maki's eyes. "Too bold."

"Am I not enough?" His voice was barely loud enough to be heard, only carried through the fire by the wind.
Gaku's head snapped up from where he was slumped against a wooden log and had been watching the desolate city beyond—whatever had been left of Tokyo. "What?" He asked but knew more than to make Hikaru repeat it again. He knew all too well how much courage it had taken from him in the first place. “C’mere.”
Hikaru's legs moved on his own accord, and he was pushing himself up before falling into Gaku's lap like it was the only piece of heaven left on this earth.
They lay like that in silence for a few moments, soaking up each other's presence. Gaku inhaled deeply, taking deep breaths, as if physically calming himself down. He reached for Hikaru's hand and placed it over his own heart, pressing it down and keeping their fingers intertwined.
Hikaru never considered that maybe Gaku needed him as much as Hikaru needed him.
_Gaku teaches Haku how to run.

“i’m not trying to embarrass you,” sunghoon says, and his voice has shifted very slightly, careful in a way it hadn’t been a moment ago. “i’m trying to figure out what i’m working with here. if i’m setting you up with jay i need to know how—”
“you need to know how sexually inexperienced i am to set me up with jay,” jaeyun says, hearing himself say it out loud and finding it simultaneously absurd and extremely real.

jaeyun lifts his head. “a joke?”
“a prank,” jungwon clarifies, stirring his coffee. “a bet. the popular guy suddenly being nice to the nerd. he’s probably waiting for the punchline because from where he’s standing, there has to be one.”
the words land somewhere uncomfortable in jaeyun’s chest.
or: sim jaeyun does not develop crushes on shy nerds who colour-code their biology notes— except, apparently, when it rains.

You’ve been missed. Not I’ve missed you, not I’m glad you came back. It’s good that he’s here, but Heeseung won’t tell him why. Someone has missed him, but Heeseung won’t tell him who.
or, Jungwon, forced to return to the house and the boy that he swore he'd leave behind forever, reckons with all the ghosts that still haunt them both.

Summary
This was nothing like the same fifteen-year old who had confessed to Jake recklessly in high school. He was wearing an entirely black outfit, a blazer with sleek pants. The pendant on his silver necklace caught the light as he hugged Jay and Heeseung. Jake recalled the shaggy brown hair from a few years ago, now it was replaced by fully black hair, cut at the sides. His smile was small and yet, it still exuded maturity as he took a seat next to Sunghoon. Then, they were making eye contact and—oh. Jake was staring.
"Jake hyung," Riki nodded in acknowledgement, and holy shit, when did his voice get so fucking deep? "It's been a while."
"Yeah—" Jake cleared his throat as his voice unexpectedly cracked. He could have sworn Jay was snickering at his inner turmoil, but both Sunghoon and Riki were staring at him in confusion and Jake needed to hurry up and fucking say something. "It has. You look great, Riki-san."
