“How long have you known that it was me?” Her heart was thrumming in her chest like pixie wings.
His body tensed again. For a moment, Hermione thought that this would be it and he would turn around to run back to the castle to pretend that she didn’t exist, but then he opened his eyes and his gaze met hers.
“Third year.” The words were barely a whisper and Hermione inhaled sharply.
Third year?
As if sensing his disbelief, he quickly continued: “I didn’t know how serious it was until sixth, when Slughorn showed us the potion. I lingered after class, waited until everybody had left and smelled it.”
“Why?”
Malfoy shrugged softly.
“I wanted to find out if I was still capable of love.”

Draco had known that Slughorn was a fool. He just hadn't thought their professor would teach a bunch of teenagers how to brew Amortentia.

For a while, Hermione is sure he is a vision. Because why, of all the beaches in the whole wide world, would he be here? Surely, a vision.
A glowing apparition sprawled on the rocks. Fine platinum hair forms a golden halo atop the vision’s head as the sea breeze cards salty fingers through it. Pale skin at the mercy of an unrelenting Italian sun, save for a blurred scar leering from its left forearm. In nothing but dark trunks, with a white shirt and handsome gray trousers abandoned on the stone beside it. The vision lays, baking in the sun, oblivious to the surf and wind and gulls and its lone observer, a woman frozen in place, clutching her sandals.
Yes, a vision.
