Nagi blinked, eyebrows furrowing. “But I’m Reo’s partner. Not anyone else.”
Barou shot her a look that screamed are you fucking delusional? and it felt a little unfair, because Nagi hadn't said anything that wasn't true.

“You’ve lost weight,” are the first words Reo says to him, a whole year since Seishiro has breathed the same air as him.
“That’s not very nice.” Seishiro’s mouth is on auto-pilot, brain still processing the sight of Reo right in front of him.
There’s Mikage Reo, synonymous with all that’s good in this world, at least to Seishiro. He looks different; his hair is longer and he’s much warier.
(He looks exactly how Seishiro remembers him.)

Summary
“H-huh?” Reo squawks when he finally comes to his senses. “Wait, no, Nagi, that’s not—”
It’s too late. Nagi’s already eased the apple out of Reo’s limp hold, and although Reo reaches for it back after a stunned pause, the pause is a little too long, he’s a little too slow, and he can do nothing but watch in ice-cold horror as Nagi bites into the apple—
A second later, there’s a crumpled pile of dangly limbs dozing on the ground below.
Reo steps back, a slight shriek slipping out of him unconsciously when Nagi so suddenly collapses to the ground. Isagi startles, too, fumbling backwards as he gapes at the scene in front of him.
“You—what—” he splutters. “Were you trying to poison me?”

He did wait long. At least by his standards. However, that wasn’t what he answered. In fact, he didn't answer at all.
Nagi looked up, ignoring his game for a moment, and, indeed, the person in front of him wasn’t Isagi. It wasn't his voice, and it certainly wasn't his appearance.
Why is this guy talking to me as if we had planned to meet..? Nagi had never seen this guy before, that's for sure. If he'd seen that face, those eyes, that hair, he'd remember. Wait a second. Is this Isagi's doing? He has been insisting a lot lately that I should meet new people.

Reo watches Nagi take the phone back and break the heart of whichever two-dimensional love interest he'd been on a date with at that moment. "The point of a dating simulator is to get them to like you, you know," Reo says as Nagi taps away at the screen.
"I'm only interested in one of them," Nagi says. Then, by way of explanation, he adds, "The one that looks like you."
Reo stiffens. Nagi's hand goes right to his shoulder, as if trying to comfort him. "Why?" Reo chokes out, thankful for once that Nagi's gaze is fixed only on his phone.
"I'm practicing for when you and I start dating."

He has to die to realize this isn't the case. That this has never been the case, and that Reo is nothing but a blunt instrument in the hands of fate, meant to guide Nagi to go far from his reach.
