    Summary

The problem with children is sometimes they don't think before they jump- or run - for that matter.
One moment Morgan was running to her father after another great day at school, the next Peter had her in his arms, fear stricken, as the car made impact.

“‘it’s okay’ He tried to mouth, becoming less aware of his surroundings. And it was okay. He was okay with dying. It didn’t hurt anymore.

‘No, it’s not okay. This isn’t fucking okay, kid. Hold on, hold on for me. Hear that? The ambulance is here. They’re going to fix you up before you can say ‘Spider-baby’.’

But Peter couldn’t hear the ambulance. He could only hear Tony’s voice in the waves of consciousness.

‘M sorry.’ Peter breathed, taking in one last sight of his dad.

    He let go.”

    Summary

    “That’s it, baby. Keep going.”

All he needs is Mom’s encouragement to try again, and this time— well, after a few more times— his eyes are open. Everything around him is blurry, but it’s coming back.
He finds Mom first. She’s right by the edge of the bed, still holding his hand as she smiles down at him. Tears are falling down her cheeks, but he guesses they’re at least happy ones now.

There’s a man standing behind her with a hand over his mouth and the other supporting his elbow. His hair is a mess, and so are his eyes. He looks scared in a way Mom doesn’t.
Brown hair, brown eyes, lots of uneven facial hair— he maps this image of Dad in his mind. This is Dad. There’s no doubt in his mind.

Or; after a hard hit to the head, Peter wakes up almost a month later and can't remember a thing. He mistakenly confuses Tony and May for Mom and Dad.

    Summary

After Vulture, after the ferry, after almost losing him--

Tony tells himself this is temporary.

    Just guidance. Mentorship. Structure.

Peter tells himself it’s just weekends.

But somewhere between burnt pancakes, patrol debriefs, and the quiet after nightmares, they build something neither of them is brave enough to name.

In this universe there is NO Infinity War and Endgame. The story is about the domestic side of parenthood, just IronDad and SpiderSon fluff and angst.

    Summary

“Daddy's read this to me hundreds of times,” Morgan confesses around a yawn, snuggling closer until she can see the first illustration clearly, “but he accidentally ripped out the ending, so it doesn’t have any pictures.”

Startled, Peter flips ahead to the last chapters of the book -- sure enough, the final two chapters are missing. “Are you sure you want to read this one?”

By the time Tony checks in on the pair of them, Wilbur is beginning to feel lonely in his pen, Peter’s arm is full of pins-and-needles and Morgan is fast asleep.

    --

Peter spends Father's Day at the lake house. He tries not to overthink it.

    Bookmarker's Notes

“‘See these? These have been here since we moved in.’ Tony murmurs, tracing a finger over the frame of the photo on the right. Peter looks closer, feeling a flicker of recognition—sure enough, it’s a match for the photo Peter has set to Tony’s number in his phone contacts. To its left sits an older photo of a man Peter faintly recognizes as Howard Stark.

‘That’s my dad on the left. I always did the dishes at night, so this was kind of my zone. Wanted some family photos to look at in the evenings. Funny thing, though—I only bent the laws of time and space to save one of these people. And it wasn’t the one who was a blood relative.’”

    Summary

“Okay,” says Peter. “Okay. Okay. Don’t freak out.”

“Um?” says Tony. He drops his screwdriver onto the desktop and stands so he can see the kid better. He's hovering in the entryway to the lab, shifting his weight foot to foot like some sneaky little criminal. This change in angle is really— quite enough to see what’s the matter, so very enough that it’s too much, and Tony almost chokes on his tongue. “Kid what the fuck,” he says, clambering straight over the table, kicking loose screws and metal scraps out of his way as he hastens to Peter’s side because there is a very inauspicious and inexplicable pool of blood on the linoleum and, really, Peter should not be bleeding this fast from any wound, ever, but especially not right now, at half-past-two in the goddamn morning with no one but the moon to watch.

    Bookmarker's Notes

“‘Pete, I need you to slow your breathing,’ Tony says.

His left arm hurts. He spends a fraction of a second imagining the terrible black humor of him having a heart attack over top of Peter’s bled-out corpse and then nearly pukes so he starts stroking Peter’s knee-bend again to calm them both.”
