Chanhee can’t imagine anything more lovely than being with both his friends for Christmas, and it’s something they’ve never done before, because it’s near impossible to get eleven people, a dog and a Chucky doll dressed as Santa (don’t ask) together for a long weekend at any time of the year, nevermind this time of the year.
But, by some stroke of luck, this year everything seems to have come together somewhat magically, and now he is really on his way to spend Christmas at a beautiful, remote, lodge on the edge of a snow-tipped forest with friends that have become his home-away-from-home over the last few years.

“I said I’m not gonna leave now,” he tells Yoshiki one evening, as they cycle beyond the park. “And if I was gonna just run off, I wouldn’t do it when you’re with me, would I? That would just be dumb.”
Yoshiki doesn’t say anything back, just continues cycling ahead. There are beads of sweat soaking the collar of Yoshiki’s t-shirt, and it feels like he’s chasing him for the rest of the ride.
He could probably catch up, but he doesn’t try, just enjoys the feeling of the chase, giddy and breathless with it, barely able to contain the feeling to this small body.

Maybe it wouldn’t ever really end, Baabin thought, and they’d all spin round in these circles—Fourmod and Chian spending hours on the phone to each other each day, even with no status, Bua making TikTok videos, and him saving screenshots of messages Fourmod sent him—until they were all too old, with hands too shaky, to use their phones at all.

The second time he turns 21, Myungha wakes up to the smell of his grandma’s cooking. She’s healthy, she’s smiling, and she has a helper in the kitchen; Yeowoon is already here, even though it’s barely 8am on a Saturday.

By the end of their call, Hanbin can tell that Taerae is half asleep from the stilted way he answers Hanbin’s questions. Hanbin bets he looks soft right now— probably in a hoodie, his glasses on, his hair curled at the edges, half dried from the shower Hanbin knows he took before he called. It pulls on something sharp and unpleasant inside of him to think that Taerae might get comfortable showing that side of him to someone else.
“Do you miss me?” He asks.
"Yes,” Taerae replies. "Of course I do."

Gyuvin thinks about holding Ricky’s hand for more than a bow at the end of a show, and he thinks about the little nook at the end of the corridor on the top floor of the company building where people go to have private telephone conversations. He wonders if two bodies would fit in there pressed up against each other and how long it would take Hanbin-hyung to realise two of his members are missing if he just took Ricky by the wrist and dragged him there to confess to him.
Now they’re not trainees and Gyuvin needs to stop thinking up stupid shit like that, except he doesn’t know how to stop.

It's like Hanbin and Kuanjui balance him out and make him feel whole, rounded, like he wasn’t a person for real until they were both in his life.
He needs to talk to Kuanjui about it, needs that soft ripple of affection and understanding, needs to hear his closest friend's opinion, because even if it’s not what he wants to hear, it’ll be what he needs to hear.

He lets them direct him to smile until his cheeks hurt and to sing the same three lines over and over again until his jaw aches for music videos, and wear school uniform for sponsorships even though he’s in his twenties.
He’s used to all of it, and even though shoots can be awkward to begin with, when he’s cold and he’s tired and there’s a billion people milling around, cameras and lighting that shines too brightly on his just made-up face, it never phases him.
