"Is it okay?"
Mu Qing blinks. "Is...what okay?" He looks down at the fingers idly rubbing the embroidered ribbon that ties his braid, then back at Feng Xin. "This, or you being here, or...?"
Feng Xin shrugs again. "All of it."
The swift clarity of the answer his heart provides takes Mu Qing by surprise, but he doesn't let it show. At least, he doesn't think so. He swallows thickly, then nods. He doesn't say, "of course," but he could. Maybe someday he will, maybe next time Feng Xin asks.
Somehow, Feng Xin's grin brightens. There should be a law against smiles like his, Mu Qing thinks in a moment of what must be delirium.

It’s not for lack of offering; the bottles occasionally appear in his temples, even if his worshippers should know better than to give him earthly temptations, and other gods have warily invited him to drink on special occasions. He accepts the shared cup during the Battle of the Lanterns, an exception to his otherwise tightly controlled cultivation, but a sip is only a sip…
Drinking expressly with the purpose to be drunk is another matter, and one that he avoids.

It’s been long enough that Feng Xin probably doesn’t even remember his number… his contact is deleted, and the fact that he’s gone to the dial screen on his phone doesn’t mean he really intends to call. He’s just playing a game with himself to see if he still remembers the series of numbers. Mu Qing had made him memorize it; someone needs to look after you, fuck knows you won’t do it yourself.
“Sorry,” Feng Xin says into the phone, closing his eyes and tilting his head back against the rough brick of the club exterior. Music’s still too loud. “I didn’t mean to call. I thought, I just wanted to see if I remembered? You know. I still know my family’s phone number from when I was growing up too…”
“It’s three in the fucking morning, Feng Xin,” Mu Qing’s tired voice interrupts. “Why the fuck are you calling me?”

Hua Cheng was expecting Mu Qing to make an obligatory rude remark about his demonic handwriting, and that he would say something suitably snippy back and that would be the end of it. But instead Mu Qing says, “Have you ever tried writing with your left hand?”
Hua Cheng’s expression changed, “What?”
Mu Qing pointed at the scribbles adorning the page, “Have you ever tried writing with your left hand?”
Hua Cheng eyed him calmly, “No.”
Mu Qing smiled at him smugly, “Do you want to impress Xie Lian?”

Mu Qing takes the offered hand, struggling to sit up on bruised knees before he gingerly picks himself up and balances on the blades of his comparatively delicate figure skates.
“What,” he hisses as he reaches down to dust off the front of his leggings, “is your fucking problem? Did someone hit you in the head? Are you stupid?”
