Mulder is a profiler, he knows how to analyze a person by even the most imperceptible twitch of an eyebrow. Knowing Scully’s favorite song? That would be a red carpet leading straight to her mind, to her thoughts. To her wants and desires.
“So just tell me. I mean, it doesn’t matter anyway, right?” Mulder tries to put on his best cocky smile knowing it’ll make her feel the need to prove him wrong. “Unless it’s something super embarrassing like a girly love song or something.”
Realistically, Scully knows he’s baiting her. But still, she can’t bring herself to lie and say his words didn’t strike a chord. Why should the idea of Scully wanting, needing or even craving love be embarrassing? To her? Or to him.
“Do you really want to know, Mulder? Are you sure?”
