Kelpies were killers. They lived in the water, drowned anyone who came too close. Ate them, most of the time. It was reflex not choice, like the kick that follows a hammer hitting a knee, because kelpies were no more aware than a wave or a wildfire.
Hydra knew about kelpies. It was why they'd come up with their brilliant plan to capture one and turn it into an assassin. But like so many plans that seemed good on paper it came with unintended consequences—in Hydra's case, the unintended consequences were Bucky and no more Hydra.
Steve didn't know that. Even as a sometime Shield consultant, he had no way of knowing any of that. Which meant when the sleek black horse surged up out of the water and didn't kill him, the only answer he could give to, "Why?" was, "I don't know."

Summary
In the modern world, where the creatures of myth live side-by-secret-side with mundane humanity, Steve Rogers is one of the gifted humans who straddles the line between mythfolk and mundane, and he's never told anyone about the day he healed a dragon.
Living in the city in human form, Bucky's managed to shed most of dragon-kind's more unpleasant tendencies, but he's never quite managed to shake the tendency to get attached, especially not when it comes to the healer who saved his life.
When healers start going missing, Bucky will do anything to make sure Steve isn't one of them, something that would be a hell of a lot easier if Steve could stand the sight of him. Of course, Steve might feel differently if he knew Bucky was the dragon he'd saved all those years ago.

Summary
This is basically an escape from MCU angst, imagining how things would be if Bucky had indeed fallen from the train back in WWII but never became the Winter Soldier. All the fun of a man-out-of-time getting used to the 21st century without any of that troublesome trying-to-kill-Steve stuff.
After destroying the helicarriers in DC, Steve works with the other Avengers to stamp out hidden Hydra bases and finds Bucky: in cryofreeze but still very much himself. Steve is ecstatic to have his best pal back, of course, but now he has to deal with his long-repressed feelings for Bucky. Much longing ensues.

Steve learns about sex and love, from his first less-than-satisfactory attempts to get laid to figuring out what he wants most in the world (one guess who that is). This started off as a simple five-times fic. I tend to write Steve as virginal (though eager) when he gets together with Bucky, but I wanted to force myself out of that and give poor Steve some experience. It makes sense that he’d want to take that amazing new body out for few test drives, right? But it kind of mutated and grew, and the fifth time turned into multiple times. Then the “plus one” turned into a story of its own rather than just a little scene… I couldn’t help it!
