Peter does not text the rest. How he wants him beyond the friendship, beyond the life they had before Frank left on a mission. How his heart turns over when Frank finally writes. How he sits on the bed, pulse racing, thumb on the glass, and sends a picture casual enough, innocent enough, that if this isn’t what Peter thinks it is, Frank can ignore it.
Except. The screen lights up in the dark. Frank is typing.

Peter’s breath stuttered. He stayed quiet for a long moment, body tense and curled. When he finally spoke, the words came out thin and cracked. “It’s fine. Besides, even if I t-told you…” He trailed off. His hand tightened in the front of Frank’s shirt, then loosened again. “God. I can’t even k-keep it together.”
The next sob tore out of him loud enough that Frank felt it vibrate through both of their chests, Peter’s whole body straining with it. He tried to pull his knees up higher, to make himself smaller, but Frank’s arms wrapped around him prevented Peter from hiding anymore than he already was. Frank cupped the back of Peter’s head with one big hand and pressed his face gently into his shirt, the fabric dampening almost immediately. He felt the wet heat of tears and the uneven hitch of breathing against his sternum. Something in Frank’s chest shifted at the sight of it—
The red rims of Peter’s eyes when he briefly lifted his head, the way the tears tracked down his flushed cheeks, the open-mouthed, ugly shape of sadness and anxiety. It shouldn’t have done anything to him...
It did.

Summary
Peter wakes up with yet another new phenotypic spider trait: venom glands and altered canine teeth.
With this new characteristic comes an unbearable ache; a pain that bleeds into his head and further complicates Peter's sense of identity, testing his strict morality as arachnid instincts fight to display themselves alongside his humanity. It bubbles over when Peter bites someone for the first time, because for a moment, he was sure his venom had killed the man.
Convinced that he has no sane outlet to relieve the throbbing in his gums, Peter isolates himself. Then Frank Castle wedges his way into the situation, and suddenly, there is a... solution. It's weird. Unconventional. Peter wouldn't dare go to anyone else for something like this; he isn't even certain anyone else could handle it. So he keeps finding his way back to Frank for relief. And maybe for the company, too.

Simon was, as usual, hard at work in the garden. Ryland had known that--Simon had told him that morning, after bringing him breakfast and kissing him on the cheek and making Ryland promise not to spend all day at his desk. The greenhouse was also kept more humid than the rest of the biodome. Ryland also knew this--the point of the greenhouse was to give the plants the best possible environment to grow while letting the rest of the biodome stay at a comfortable temperature and humidity for the two humans. The xenonite walls trapped heat and moisture inside, giving the plants inside the best shot at sprouting. Ryland knew all of this, very well, in fact, but knowing was not nearly enough to prepare Ryland for the sight outside the kitchen window.
