The king's canary has abandoned his duty. Jimmy would argue he just quit a bad job. Either way there's a bounty on his head and a curse around his neck, and with Grian and Joel's voices ringing in his ears, Jimmy's dreams of freedom seem further out of reach by the day.
That is until he saves a blaze hybrid who, for some reason, is hellbent on returning the favor. Alone, Jimmy is pathetic. Honestly, even with Tango, Jimmy still thinks they're kind of pathetic. But with a little bit of luck they just might make it.

shelby steps off a midnight train with nothing but a dying flip phone, broken earbuds, and a hunger she refuses to look in the eye. the air is too still, the lights too dim, like the whole station is holding itself quiet just to watch her pass. she doesn’t know the town waiting beyond the platform. she doesn’t know its rules, its ghosts, its long memory. but the dark does. the dark knows her footsteps, knows the shape of her shadow, knows the way her hunger curls like smoke beneath her ribs. and as she crosses the threshold from trainlight to night, it feels less like an arrival and more like a summons — a whispered welcome from something that has been waiting for her far longer than she ever dared to imagine.

Shelby stood on the top of the lake’s tower, still reeling from the thrill of teleporting to their scarlet beacon, breathing in the fresh air and soaking in the sun. They turned, a massive, toothy grin on their face and determination in their heart. Scott, Pyro, and Owen loomed behind her.
“Okay, guys! No more being grumpy,” Shelby exclaimed. “It’s beach time!”
The two oldest vampires leveled her with an unimpressed look.
“Shelby, this is a lake.”
