People remained stagnant in their ignorance and Kimi remained ahead of many in the sense that he had long lost his interest in being ignorant. Ignorance was the game of little boys and Kimi was not that, not anymore, he wasn’t allowed to be. He’d been forced to grow up when he realized that the life he lived was not going to be the one he always lived–that one day, someone would find him out, someone would discover his secret.

Summary
Thomas and Amalie Bearman both had incredibly long days of school on a Thursday, especially in comparison to their older brother. It was decisively unfair, in both of their opinions, and it was something they both complained to each other about regularly. It therefore meant that whilst their older brother, Ollie, was often home on Thursdays before even four o’clock, it was rare for either of them to be home before half past eight.
This also meant that both of them would regularly miss out on almost four entire hours of annoying sibling duties, something else they often complained to each other about. What was the point of being younger by two years and five years respectively if they couldn’t regularly get to be a total nuisance and cause Ollie problems without getting in trouble themselves?! It was free real estate!
What they also didn't know, however, was that they had missed the most exciting family dinner for a while, with their eldest brother having brought over his biggest rival from school.

Ollie had hated Kimi’s existence from the moment he’d first laid eyes on him. The Italian had come barging in as a new student some time late into Year 8, and by mid Year 9, had everyone fawning over him like he was some celebrity.
It had excited him at first, to finally have someone on his level to compete against academically and socially, but the idea had gone sour fast at just how charismatic the other was. There was a constant battle between them, everything a competition, and people had known for years to stay out of their way, the safest solution. Ollie and Kimi were the two darlings of the school, the ones with the greatest respect, and yet there was no respect between them for the other.
Everyone had a side. No matter the school year, older or younger, everyone had a side. Ollie or Kimi. Who did one support? The teachers did their best to stay unbiased, and to ignore the events unfolding, but had been known to cave once or twice on occasion.
So Ollie should have seen it as an oncoming inevitable possibility that the two would end up as head boys together, voted by the rest of the school.

Summary
As if combining university and working at the bar wasn't complicated enough, Isak got the job at the same time as another boy, who turns out to be the most fucking annoying person he ever met.
Even is an absolute pain in the ass because 1. He’s way much better at this job than Isak is, which kind of stresses him because he doesn’t want to lose his job, 2. Even’s personality always lights up the room the very second he enters it, and every girl try to hit on him, giving him extra tip and their phone numbers (Isak doesn’t really care about the phone numbers —or the girls at all, if he’s being honest— but he would definitely need the extra money Even gets), and 3. Even has the most annoying smile ever. Every time he looks in Isak’s direction, he beams at him and gives him the most blinding smile Isak has ever seen, and fuck, he hates that guy so much because Even is everything Isak dreamt of and his heart skips a beat every goddamn time.
Every Friday night, when the bar closes, the team has a tradition where they play a little drinking game before leaving, so they can bond together. When Eskild decides they're playing Straight Face, Isak realizes he can't keep his face straight at all.
