Bebop and the Doorman share a meal and have two conversations. Not that any of that can put a body back together, so Bebop puts his cheek against the marble and lets the Doorman finish talking.
“It’s not exactly new,” said Bebop. If he had a mouth he’d smile, lopsided and sincere. “People’ve been eatin' since the dawn of time. Bit late to the party, we are.”
“I’ve never done it before,” the Doorman responded. Gone was the infinitely probing look; in its place was one that spelled out I hope you don’t mind. “And I’ve had plenty of dawns.”
“Yeah,” Bebop said. “Sure.”

Mortals, guest and employee alike, lie scattered all over the room. All of them in deep slumber, lost in the land of sleep. Above the desk and on the floor and across various furniture—a bellboy even managed to lean himself against the hotel's front doors, propped up against the handles with his hat askew.
A scene straight out of a fairy tale. Or a horror movie.

The Drifter snarled in response and swung out at where he guessed the other’s torso would be. There was a tearing sound, a mix of cloth, meat, and something unnatural, before the hand on his neck released him. He immediately whirled, teeth bared and claws at the ready, only to find the Doorman merely adjusting his cuffs and affixing him with an unimpressed raise of his brow. There was no sign of damage on him, as though the wound that he had felt had never existed at all. Bastard.
The Drifter learns what it feels like to be hunted.

They first meet each other in a spaceport rest stop, just a couple lightyears away from Uncle Bob’s Fantanimaland and more than a couple away from a corporate skyscraper that’s short one window. He looks like any other proldier passing by to or from a job, sitting alone in a booth in the corner of a very crowded drinking hole. She looks like she should be behind the counter serving the drinks, but instead she rolls through puddles of spilled alcohol and deftly avoids someone accidentally knocking over their bar stool. There’s a lost, empty look in his eyes. There’s a desperate, anxious look in hers.
A headcanon prequel of sorts where I imagine Barry and Sidney meet each other soon after being left on their own, and they basically decided to never leave each other's sides.
