Twenty years after the Imprisoning War, the clouds part on a blood moon. The greatest calamity is yet to come. It can’t happen again – but the world is a water wheel, ever-turning, and an unborn Gerudo boy is set to drown in it.
The Gerudo sage, Naba, would pull him out.

Summary
They have broken fate into something better: the Calamity is sealed, the Champions live, Hyrule will rebuild. Yet the death of the king and much of the Hylian court unsettles the balance of power, and while Zelda recovers from the Calamity, the army moves to seize control.
Worse, the Calamity is not the only piece of history lodged in the bedrock of Hyrule. Deep under the ground, other histories await. Some start to seep up.
Link is not yet rid of fate – but nor is he alone in facing it.

Summary
The Champions live. The Kingdom of Hyrule still stands – and King Rhoam declares that in all the old stories, the bearers of divine wisdom and courage are joined in more than battle. In celebration of averting the Calamity, Princess Zelda and Link are to be betrothed.
Rito songs offer another course.
The bard Keteli lifts a wing, as if beginning, and says simply, “Revali should kidnap him.”

Summary
The inhabitants of Tabantha Village alone in Hyrule celebrate the Picori Festival, held every spring in honour of the diminutive people who long ago gave Hylians the magic light force and the Picori Blade, and later aided a young hero and his rude hat on a quest to save Hyrule. Now, the peaceable Minish need help.
A buried guardian-statue is waking up. The only way to deactivate it is inside its ancient carapace. The journey to the guardian-statue requires two people with the skills of warriors, but only children can see the Minish.
For Link, it’s a strange adventure. For Revali, it’s a way to prove himself.

Obviously, truth is stranger than fiction, and there’s always going to be edge cases in the real world, but for our purposes: just how realistic is Armand’s tragic backstory?
Judging by the number of retweets/reblogs on this post and others like it, fannish opinion seems to be “not very”. But honestly? It’s not that far-fetched.
Or: a fannish academic does a deep dive into the most controversial character in Daniel Molloy’s new novel.

Summary
This meta essay discusses the influence of medieval Noh theater on the striking costume worn by Ganondorf in The Wind Waker. I explain the symbolism of Ganondorf’s gorgeously patterned robes and argue that the sartorial allusions to Noh theater serve to characterize Ganondorf as a frightening yet tragic ghost displaced from the beautiful vanished kingdom of Hyrule.

Summary
Being sent to the Rito in the dead of winter is a punishment. Link is ostensibly relieving the longtime Hylian military attaché, so this could be construed a promotion—but for the timing.
Another birthday has come and gone, and still he has not presented. And even though everyone expects him to be appointed the Princess’s knight, one thing is for sure—the King will never select anyone but an alpha. And he certainly won’t trust his only child with someone who hasn’t even presented yet. Maybe it would be different if Link had the sword that seals the darkness, but he doesn’t.
