The girl’s shoulders hunch again. An expression is battling on her face. Guilt again, and fear, and shame. And then faintly, in the soft turn of her cheek, commiseration. She watches Gustave for a long, sad moment, and then turns to a new page in the notepad. She starts writing something, and then stops, glancing furtively at Gustave before scribbling it out. On a new line she instead writes in big bold letters:
Maelle.
OR
Gustave is the local mechanic of Lumiere, an idyllic coastal village far away from the chaos and conflict of Paris. Struggling with his recent injury and the loss of a good friend, he's not quite prepared when a family moves into the abandoned Manor on the edge of town.
He's definitely not prepared for their children.

Cid wasn't sure why the King had decided to send him to the ruins of Phoenix Gate other than to confirm that, yes, two fire eikons trying to destroy each other could really make a fucking mess. Trying to navigate his way up the castle around the giant fucking crater without being caught by Imperial troops was an experience Cid could have done without.
All he actually got out of the trip was a cat. Or maybe better said, a bedraggled, matted black kitten.

Even after finding out the truth about Soren’s heritage, it wasn’t something they really talked about.
Ike had made it abundantly clear he’d be more than happy to listen – or even punch someone if that’s what Soren preferred – but the other had in turn made it very clear that was about the last thing he wanted. The only thing that would have made him feel better was if no one had told him in the first place, but since Ike could not travel through time and change the past, the two of them did the next best thing.
They ignored it.
It wasn’t ideal, but it was the only thing Ike felt he could do without upsetting Soren further. Even after they left everything behind to travel the world together, the subject was never breached.
Which was why, several years after they’d started travelling and several years of not speaking about the subject, it came as a surprise when Soren himself wordlessly dumped a book about dragon laguz in front of him.
