Summary
Ten years after the Battle of Starcourt Mall, Steve and Dustin have still never spoken about all that transpired down in the Russian bunker. When the truth of how Dustin saved Robin and Steve finally comes to light, Steve comes to some rapid realizations about how feels about Dustin and the lengths his friends will go to for him.

“Most of them,” Robin pushes. “But that freaky doctor was in the room with us. Wait, did you get him with the cattle prod? Oh my God, wait, did you kill that doctor, Dustin?”
Dustin is staring everywhere but at Steve. “So? Haven’t most of us killed someone at this point?”
Steve’s heart has leapt into his throat. Had Dustin really killed a man when he was fourteen to save them? To save him?
“Uh, no Dustin, most of us have not!” someone says. Steve isn’t sure who because his focus has narrowed to watching every reaction that plays across Dustin’s face. A fully-body shudder courses through Steve.

A shockwave sent Dustin sprawling to the ground, knocking his head hard and making it spin. When his vision clarified, he saw someone else also struggling to his knees. He was short, about Dustin's height, with close cropped curly brown hair, shot through here and there with grey. He looked oddly familiar but Dustin couldn't place where he knew him."Son of a bitch!" The man exclaimed, shaking his head. He looked up, staring Dustin right in the face with the exact same blue-grey eyes Dustin saw in the mirror every morning.

Summary
“Yeah,” Steve sighs. “I’m gonna miss you, too, Dustin. Hey, promise you won’t forget about good old Steve Harrington when you make a bunch of new, smart friends?”
Steve brings his hand to grip the base of Dustin’s neck. He knows he sounds pathetic, but it covers what he really wants to say, which is “don’t leave me behind.”
Dustin catches Steve’s gaze and holds it. “You’re my best friend. You know that nothing could ever change that.”
Steve can’t seem to tear his eyes away from Dustin’s. The weight of everything they went through in the last five years hangs in the air. There’s too much to say and nothing to say that they don’t already know.

It’s a story told through phone calls, postcards, holidays at home, road trips, and Lord of the Rings references. It’s a story of learning what to let go of, what to hold onto and how to find a path forward. Mostly, it’s a story about love.

Steve took another drag and leaned forward, an invitation this time, finding that he really wanted another opportunity to feel Dustin’s lips on his, if only because each sensation on his skin felt so intense. The music continued to play, thrumming through his chest comfortably. Dustin looked at him for a second before leaning in and opening his mouth, eyes fluttering shut.Steve supposed he should feel more awkward about pressing his lips to his best friend’s like this, but it just seemed like the most practical thing to do to help Dustin get high in a way that didn’t totally obliterate his lungs. Besides, Dustin had always been different. Special. He could do things with Dustin that he couldn’t do with his other friends

Summary
“You have to be more careful, Henderson,” Steve bites out as he ties off the gauze.
“I’m not trying to get hurt,” Dustin lies. Steve’s hands haven’t left Dustin’s arm, fingers wrapped hotly around his wrist and elbow.
Dustin drags his fingers from Steve’s thigh to his hip briefly before slipping up under his sweater. He runs his fingers over the gnarled knots of flesh of Steve’s scars. The ones he got fighting off the same bats that took Eddie. Dustin lets his eyes flutter closed and a breathy sigh escapes his throat. “Steve,” he sighs again.
Steve inhales sharply and before Dustin can open his eyes, Steve is pressing a burning kiss to Dustin who opens under him immediately.

In the aftermath of Vecna ripping open rifts to the Upside Down, Dustin has plenty of opportunities to get hurt, from the monsters that invade Hawkins to MPs who patrol the roads, to the bullies at school. Dustin starts seeking out the pain to distract himself from his grief and anger. Each time he gets hurt, Steve is there to offer him relief... So now, Dustin has another reason to get himself hurt, if only so Steve will touch him again.

Summary
Dustin takes the leap on an unassuming Monday afternoon in early May.
“You want me to– what?” Eddie’s voice squeaks a little on the final word.
“Kiss me,” Dustin says matter-of-factly, not bothering to hide the blush that has risen to his cheeks. “Look, I know you’re gay. I… think I might be, too. But I’m not sure. I need more data.”

Dustin asks Eddie to help him test two hypotheses:
Hypothesis 1: Dustin is gay. Hypothesis 2: Steve Harrington is gay.
Dustin thinks this may help him with his final (and most important) hypothesis: if both things are true, then maybe he has a chance after all.But Dustin may have forgotten some crucial variables. Namely, Steve’s feelings and his own. Emotional fallout ensues.
A story that takes place in a canon divergent world where Vecna never targets Hawkins after the events of Season 3. Events occur in May of Dustin's freshman year. Dustin is 15 and Steve is 19

Summary
When Steve pulls to a stop five minutes later, the teen realizes they’re parked in front of Dustin’s house. He whips his head around to look at Steve. He can’t walk into his own house right now and leave Steve behind him in the truck, cannot let him drive away out of his sight. Steve is already looking at him, some kind of internal battle warring on his features. Dustin’s throat closes up. He can’t speak, can only shake his head and look imploringly at Steve. Relief floods Steve’s face, and it unlocks Dustin’s tongue.
“Take me home,” Dustin says.
Steve breathes out a shaky, “yeah, okay,” as he puts the truck in drive and takes the familiar route to Steve’s house.

Or, in the aftermath of the battle with Vecna, Dustin and Steve refuse to part from each other, choosing to recover from the wounds of battle together. Unspoken communication, adrenaline, the rapid changes in their relationship over the last few days, and final apologies pull down the last barrier between them. -

Steve and Dustin reverse fall through the rift and smack hard onto the ground. Steve still has his arms wrapped tightly around Dustin as he watches the rift sew itself shut, the turf knitting over until even the grass looks like it had never been disturbed
“Dustin?” Steve coughs out. Dustin is laying half on top of him, body heavy. He doesn’t respond. Steve grabs him by the shoulders shaking him, “Dustin, hey—we made it back.” Steve's heart is in his throat as he tips Dustin softly onto the ground, cradling him in his arms. Dustin’s head lolls to the side, eyes closed, and Steve can see blood at his temple, baseball cap long lost.

Steve pauses, and Dustin looks back at him before he says, “because I really missed you.”
Dustin is pinned by the searing intensity of his gaze, feels so sure that Steve can see every part of his heart open and on display. It’s all too much to bear but he’s unable to tear his own eyes away. He stares back too afraid to even blink, in case the moment slips away while his eyes are closed. The tangle of anger and grief fade for just a moment as his heart screams out, I love you I love you I love you I love you. He feels the words heavy on his tongue, desperate to spill out. But if he tells Steve the truth, this one secret he’s held for years, he knows that it will break whatever fragile thing they’re rebuilding beyond repair.

Or...Dustin and Steve have repaired their relationship at the Squawk, but Dustin still harbors one more secret. With the world literally collapsing around them, he doesn't know if he'll ever find a way to reveal it.
