Peter widens his eyes at the realisation of what he said, “I’m sorry,” he whispers, hands shaking when he distances them from Wade’s face.
But Wade doesn’t let him, his own hands meeting Peter’s, holding them in place.
“Don’t be.” Wade breathes.
His heart is beating so strong and loud and chaotic in his chest, he remembers he’s alive.
“It’s you.”
One, two, three seconds go by.
“Yes.” A whisper capable of destroying entire cities.
“It has always been you.” But there’s something more in that sentence, words coming out of Wade’s mouth like a confession and not a statement.

The woodsy undertone of his cologne that lingered when he walked past chatting with Trace. “Don’t worry,” Wade tells him. Summer in the city is blissful, but none of that elation is displayed in the dismal gray sky or the frantic traffic below them. “I’m sure that one day, somebody’ll come to punish me for all the things I’ve done in my life. I just don’t recognize anybody who can.”
Peter reaches forward. Wraps his fingers around his arm. Holds him to hold him. “But I don’t want your punishment.”
He wants his health. He wants his happiness. He wants him.
“I want your recovery. And I don’t-” His grip tightens. “I don’t know how to help you.”
Wade takes his hand and presses it against his heart.
“This,” He admits, a smile ghosting across his lips. “This is how.”
After Doctor Strange’s spell and month after month of starved depression, the last thing Peter needs is Deadpool settling down in Queens with a beyond-the-grave mission from Tony Stark to “find and protect the kid”. Hoping to distract him from finding his identity, he develops an alliance with the mercenary. Then a friendship. Then a crush. With lines getting crossed and connections growing deeper, by the time Peter realizes he's fallen in love, it's far too late to back out.
