They may have split up to get information, but it's okay because the local technopagan can bully him in Clara's place for a while.Yeah I'm being a bit facetious with my summary here, this is a genuine, mostly-takes-itself-seriously story and all, but mostly it was just born out of the desire for a) Clara and Giles to meet and b) for Jenny to bully 12. Beware the silliness creeping in through the cracks.

Therefore the ONLY logical option is for them to have a messy, public break-up, once a year, every year, to avoid common law status.
