“I’m meeting someone actually.” Sebastian feigns disinterest, turning away and stirring his cocktail with pale, slender fingers. He can feel Sam’s eyes burning into him, and it feels so good he can’t help his lips from curling into a smirk.
Sam isn’t deterred, leaning in closer. His chest presses into Sebastian’s shoulder and he tries to suppress a shudder at the contact. “I don’t doubt it, guy like you, looking like that,” he rasps right against his ear.

Summary
Jayce wakes up warm and comfortable, on his belly on a soft mattress, cocooned by soft, fur blankets. They’re on the outskirts of Ixtal, a secluded cabin deep in a rainforest seeped in magic, and Jayce can tell from the cool breeze wafting in from the ajar window that it had rained earlier, chasing away the oppressive humidity.
“Jayce,” a voice says, half Viktor’s pitched low, half that darkly familiar robotic burr.
“Mm, today a Herald day?” he mumbles into his pillow, shivering when he feels the cool metal of the third claw trace between his shoulder blades.
Sometimes Viktor wakes up in Herald form. Today, Jayce gets to enjoy it.

Summary
Jayce has always been prone to bright, intense bursts of emotion, Viktor knows. When he met him, he was about to make the most final decision a person can make. Something a person just doesn’t do if they didn’t feel so terribly, so deeply. Later, he seemed to stabilize, to manage his emotions with more ease.
Of course, now, after everything, all that progress is down the drain. Jayce cries some days just looking at Viktor, like he can’t believe he’s in front of him, that Viktor wants him. As if there was any version of Viktor that could ever not want Jayce Talis.

Summary
The Machine Herald is captured by Piltover after a failed attack on the bridge, and he is mortally wounded in the process. Jayce must risk everything to save him and repair the damage done, racing against the clock as Piltover hunts him down for treason, but the history between them complicates things. Despite his claims that his actions are no longer dictated by emotion, Viktor is still harboring anger and hatred for his exile in the wake of Jinx's attack, and blames Jayce for what happened. But despite it all, they still care about each other (in their own violent, traumatized ways) and as time runs out, necessity forces them to face the past—and each other—if they want to get out of this unscathed.

Viktor stops abruptly mid-sentence. It’s probably because Jayce has leaned forward to rest his head against Viktor’s collarbone, jutting out prominently under the thin black undersuit. Jayce closes his eyes and sighs contentedly, nuzzling closer.
“Fuck, I wish I had a camera right now,” Vi says, clearly trying to stifle a laugh. “Thanks, doc. I’ll get out of your hair before Jayce says or does something even more embarrassing. Stop him if he tries to bleach his hair, yeah? He was really fixated on that earlier.”
“Thank you, Vi,” Viktor replies in a strangled tone.
Jayce is a pit fighter. Viktor is the Machine Herald. That makes them both sound a lot cooler than they actually are.

Summary
It’s too easy for Jayce to forget, sometimes, that Viktor isn’t nice. Viktor’s good. Viktor’s kind. Viktor wants to lift up the weak and the helpless and cast down the mighty. But he isn’t nice. And he’s only human: sometimes, he takes things too far. Sometimes, Jayce wonders if Viktor pictures perfection as a vast white wasteland: sterile, untouched.
But Jayce isn’t one to criticise. He, too, has his flaws. That night, Jayce pictures Viktor bent over the welding bench and he takes himself in his hand, moving quick and fast and cruel until he comes. Yes: he, too, has his flaws.
Or: Jayce is down bad, and Viktor slowly notices.

What has Viktor done to deserve this? At what point did Jayce come to value him so highly? Somehow, this bond of theirs grew so gradually, so subtly, escaping Viktor’s notice as it entwined itself into every facet of their lives, strangling all else with its roots until only its verdant bloom remained.
“Let me go, Jayce.”
The grip on him tightens. “I won’t.”
No. He’s made that quite clear. Viktor lacks the strength to shake him off; if he tried, Jayce would surely release him, but to rob Jayce of his sole source of comfort would not be right, nor good, and so Viktor waits. A minute passes, then two, then four.
The rune swallows them up, and abandons them in an unfamiliar land. Is this not what they wanted? With naught but the clothes on their backs, they are left to wander. To wonder.

Viktor has been chasing the high of Jayce’s attention, his affection, for the better part of four years now, and this pushes them toward the brink of something monumental that could make or break their future. Their partnership. Their…whatever this is. There’s the work, and then there’s them. Hextech, and Jayce-and-Viktor. Viktor-and-Jayce. They’re a package deal that’s teetering on the edge of something else entirely. Viktor has been jumping toward that edge, but for some reason, that kiss makes him feel like his landing place has disappeared mid-leap.
