Summary
This was meant to be a short trip – get in, gather some more evidence about the Upside Down being stuck on the day Will went missing, and quickly get the hell out of it. Obviously, things hadn’t gone to plan.

As it is his senior year, Will Byers decides to try out theater. The school is putting on Much Ado About Nothing. He's sure it'll be fun...
There are a few problems:
1. He's developed a crush on the lead actor: Mike Wheeler
2. His own sister is playing Mike's love interest
3. His least favorite person Troy Walsh is in the play. And now he's threatening to spill big secrets.
Will the play go over well? Will Mike and Will get together (of course)? Are Troy's threats as empty as they seem? Will just wanted a fun senior year.ALSO: Make sure to check notes on chapters for TWs. It does get a little bit sensitive further in.

“True, Will is like a lady magnet,” Dustin added, a sly grin appearing on his face. “Though it will be much harder to find Mike a date. He’s mean.”
“Oh come on! I’m not even that mean,” Mike huffed, shooting Dustin a piercing look. “Also, El you don’t have a date either. Why are you trying to play Matchmaker?”
El’s hands flew to her hips. “Me and Dustin are going as friends. He doesn’t have his girlfriend here, and I don’t have a boyfriend. So we’re going as besties.”
Will looked over to Mike to see if he would be upset about El and Dustin, but he seemed more confused than anything.
“Uh, okay? So if you can go with Dustin to prom as friends, why can’t I just go with Will?” Mike furrowed his eyebrows.

Despite knowing that Vecna could return at any moment, the group decides to try to move forward with their lives. Their junior prom was coming up and Will still didn't have a date, so El took it upon herself to find him one. But of course, things never go as planned, do they?

"Does anyone else think their partner is… edible?” Mike asks, not really directing the question to anyone specific as he spreads blankets over the couch.
When he looks up, the room has gone silent and is staring at him. Dustin’s eyes are wide, looking slightly mortified, Lucas’ eyebrows are furrowed in blatant confusion, and Max looks like she wants Mike to never open his mouth if those were the words he was going to speak. Mike can’t help the way he immediately flushes.
aka; mike wants to eat will affectionately, the party knows this but not their relationship, and he's so, so whipped.

Summary
This was basically a worst case scenario for Will. He and Mike had a past, and not just like ‘oh, they used to be friends’, no, it was much more complicated. They were glued at the hip for a decade, through thick and thin, two halves of a whole. Their friendship had an intensity unmatched by anything else Will had experienced, it was all consuming at times, bleeding into every facet of his life. Will wasn’t prepared to face this, he didn’t want to deal with this. He had been doing just fine pretending Mike didn’t exist. Yeah, he struggled for a while, but whatever. He had desperately tried to make peace with it, and wanted to keep it that way.
OR
Will is forced to confront both the old and new feelings that his former best friend draws out of him when they are paired up for a school project.
(Set in modern day and narrated by Will’s inner voice)

I never writ, nor no man ever lov'd.”As Mike breathed out the final words, Will knew, for the first time in certainty, that this was more than just a hookup. He knew they were more than secret meetings in the AV Club meetings or nights on the road outside of town. He knew that this was love.
He knew that Mike loved him.
Will felt his breath hitch as he squeezed Mike’s hand. He let out a breath, their eyes still tied together. Neither of them were smiling but their eyes were. Will knew that he didn’t have to keep pretending they were in love.
OR
Will and Mike are just hooking up behind closed doors but Will wants more. He craves more from the boy he's so desperately in love with.

Summary
Will Byers loves Mike Wheeler.
It shouldn’t be a big deal. Of course he loves Mike. He always has. But it’s never felt like this. It’s never hurt to think about it, but it also never felt like a revelation rather than a fact. It hurts, and there’s nothing he can do to ease the pain. He looks across the room at Mike and all he sees is beauty where minutes ago he only saw his best friend. He notices entire constellations in the freckles strewn across his nose, stars glittering in his eyes, and it all seems inevitable. He loves Mike. He loves him and it’s a foregone conclusion, a wish on a shooting star destined to burn out. He loves him and he can’t ever have him, not in that way, and there’s nothing in the world that can ever hurt him again quite like this.
OR: When the party dares Mike to tell someone he loves them for one hundred days, Will doesn't expect to be the unlucky recipient. He definitely doesn't expect it to consume his last three months in Hawkins. But like most things in his life, absolutely nothing goes to plan.

Will moves back to an upright position, wiping his hair out of his eyes, head and shoulders peeking above the water. “Mike,” he says, pulling Mike up with him, their fingers still intertwined.
“Yeah?” Mike says, tilting his head so the water trickles out of his ears, wincing slightly. “What is it?”
Will’s eyes dart back and forth between his, and then Mike feels his hand squeeze his own. “I don’t want you to, like, think I moved back for you,” he starts, which in and of itself would be enough to get Mike’s soul soaring straight out of his own body, if it weren’t for Will’s thumb pressed against his pulse point like some kind of mortal tether. “Because it’s not like that, I promise. But I think– I think I realized there’s a difference between things you want and things you need, you know?”
