Summary
[SPOILERS TO C4E18.]
“I never really thought about it before, but I think I might like pain,” Occtis tells him. “Maybe I even liked it before, but always got too lost in all the other feelings the world had to offer to notice it. But now it’s the only feeling that I have. So I think I want to… possess it. To hold it in my hand and do with it how I see fit.”
It occurs to his social brain that every word of that confession was more alarming than the last, but it has only served to turn Julien’s expression into something avaricious and gleaming. “My ribs are still quite bruised,” he murmurs. “Be my guest.”
Occtis takes a moment to sort through his thoughts on the matter. He can hear voices from the women’s tent, but they sound faraway and untroubled.
“Your pain tolerance is good,” he decides aloud. “I trust you not to make any sound.”
“Of course I can be quiet,” Julien assures him in a honeyed tone. He assumes a more relaxed pose, resting comfortably on his side. “Go on, then. What are you waiting for? I despise cowardice in all its forms—so don’t disappoint me.”

Summary
Lucien regards Essek. “You know I steal things for a living, don’t you? You know I’ve got a few dead men to my name, too?”
“I am aware of these facts, Mr. Tavelle. I considered them to be among your highest qualifications for this job.”
“And yet you came here alone?”
“...Yes?”
Lucien digests this. “Okaaay. Well, how’s the pay?”
“200 gold."
Lucien bursts out laughing. “Nope! Nope. Absolutely not. Do you think I was born last night?”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Lemme get this straight.” Lucien leans forward, staring Essek down. “You’re telling me you came to a distant kingdom, arranged to meet a known criminal in a bathhouse, and thought nothing of stripping nude for a parley—but now you’re telling me that you need protection for your meeting with some spook? You’re dangerous enough on your own, my friend. If you’re in the market for a merc, it’s because you are about to walk into some fucked up, unsound, insane shit—and I’m not getting flayed alive and broken on the rack for 200 gold. For 500 gold? Sure, fine, that’ll get you some light flaying, maybe a turn or two on the rack—but not for 200.”
Essek sighs. “Do you prefer it in gold or platinum?”

Summary
“We would like to offer our sincere condolences regarding the passing of your husband,” Ethrand states in a lofty drawl.
Julien sees Aranessa’s jaw go taut. “Thank you for thinking of us in our time of mourning,” she grates out.
“Of all Houses, House Tachonis would never seek to downplay or invalidate the importance of a mourning period. However, certain circumstances warrant a loosening of the proscribed timelines.”
Julien’s jaw falls ajar. He can't possibly mean...?
“I fear I fail to understand you," Aranessa hisses. "Elaborate.”
“All this recent unpleasantness was the consequence of years of unfortunate misunderstandings between our two houses. In contravention of what one might expect, I am pleased to say that I am here with an entreaty of peace.”
Aranessa allows a long silence to transpire, one that seems to make even Ethrand uncomfortable. “I will hear the details.”
“In exchange for a lasting peace, we only seek to solemnize this new alliance with a vow.” Ethrand smirks. “Accordingly, my father offers you the hand of my brother Occtis in marriage.”
Julien looks down at the rug. If he doesn’t look down at the rug, he’s going to start shouting.

Summary
[SPOILERS TO C4E5.]
Occtis is still holding his head up high, but now that they’re in better lighting, Julien realizes he looks a bit unsteady. Nonetheless, the boy's voice is steadfast. “I have some work I need to get done this evening. If you want to stay in this stupid room while that happens, I can’t stop you, but I expect you to be polite about it.”
Deciding the unsteadiness is only to be expected, Julien tries to muddle past it. “What kind of work?”
Occtis’s jaw goes tight. “I… have to start making some adjustments, or else I won’t ‘heal’ properly. Is that going to be a problem for you?”
Julien doesn’t know what he’s supposed to respond to that, so he defaults to setting some parameters. “There’s a sorry excuse for a curtain that you may use as a partition if you desire. I’ll take this bed; that side of the room is all yours to do as you see fit.”
Occtis just stares at him. “You’re… fine with this?”
Julien rolls his eyes. “Yes. I am extremely fucking fine with everything that is happening. Everything is extremely fucking great with me.” He flops down on the nearer of the two beds. “Do what you must.”
“Thank you for being so kind.”
Julien’s eye twitches.

Summary
[SPOILERS THROUGH C4E4.]
“Honor is not just a word,” Julien retorts.
Occtis is too tired not to scoff in his face. “It’s just a word, and it’s a fickle one. Never trust a silent ‘h.’”
Julien’s brow furrows as he processes this, and his look of incredulity only increases. “So your family wants you back, and now—”
“My family wanted an undead thrall,” Occtis snaps. “They got half that. When Bolaire and Dr. Mag’Nesson took the stone out of my chest, the process that had started couldn’t finish. Now I’m stuck with the same problem I had before all this: I have to figure all of this out for myself!” Overtaken by a sudden fit of anger, he jabs his finger into Julien’s chest. “You of all people should relate!”
Rage flares to life in Julien’s expression, and he presses forward, making his superior build evident. “You are going to stop right there,” he snarls.

Summary
“Fuck, is this what it feels like playing for the sanctimonious team all the time? This is bollocks.” A year after the destruction of the Eyes of Nine, Caleb finds himself forced to reckon directly with the Nein's failure to kill Lucien in the Astral Sea. Instead of a vengeful enemy, he discovers a man whose painful history echoes much of Caleb's own. The fact that the sex is incredible doesn't hurt, either.

Summary
[This a UNESCO Fandom Heritage Fic originally posted to FFN in 2002-2003]. A loving parody of Cassie Claire's magnum opus that took on a life of its own. Harry and Draco banter incessantly, Draco does eventually wear leather pants at one point, Blaise is accidentally trans, and the Death Eaters go to Maui. It's a lot.

Summary
"This plan is insane, unsafe, ill-advised, and - in case I haven’t already made it abundantly clear - I’m begging for the chance to join you.” Sea piracy, highway robbery, grand larceny, assassination, espionage, and a coup. Who needs bad guys with good guys this bad? Molly, Caleb, Essek and the Nein all rotate in and out of frame in this sprawling, thoroughly upsetting and utterly ridiculous sojourn through the criminal underworld of Wildemount.

Summary
He intends to use Occtis as bait. He's said as much to his face. They are not friends. They are not comrades. They are barely allies, and most days, the ice-cold silence between them makes even that label seem deeply laughable. He is treating Occtis like a threat, like a stick of blackpowder that might explode at any moment.
It's not inaccurate. Not on the logistical level, obviously. His father and brother could be planning anything with his heart; Occtis wouldn't damn well know. But it's not inaccurate on the personal level, either. It's more accurate than Sir Julien really seems to understand.
Exploding sounds violent, and dangerous, and warm. It might be nice to find some way to explode.
Occtis Tachonis is in dire need of a distraction.
Surely an ill-advised hookup with Sir Julien Davinos should do the trick.Series

Summary
"You'd best try your experiments on me," Julien says acidly. He's rewarded with a sharp inhale from the boy, one which he knows full well Occtis does not actually need. "I'll be down in the cellars tonight, if you insist on continuing your scientific work. If anyone is equipped to take your magic in stride, it is I. Just leave those poor flowers be."
He's certainly suffered enough wounds at the hands of the Tachonis already. Better the boy play with fire under his eye, rather than behind his back. Better that Julien judge Occtis Tachonis's new abilities up front, so that he can best defeat them, should the need arise.
And besides - he's a wizard, for Shapers' sake. A low-level, books-based, necromantic wizard. Julien can handle him just fine.
Occtis has some magical experiments to try.
Julien, as it turns out, might just be the perfect test subject.Series

Summary
The spell Lucien casts is simple enough: this is Caleb’s idiosyncratic rendering of Produce Flame. The largest pile of books catches light with a crackle.
Essek is startled enough that he cannot hold back his exclamation. “Since when have you known how to cast?” he demands.
Lucien grins at him. The way the burning tomes underlight his features makes him appear every bit the monster he truly is. “Caleb’s mind is a wonderfully educational place to spend time,” the bloodhunter taunts. He once again squares his pose with Essek’s. “He’s never been one to hold back, either—well, not with me, at least.” With that, Lucien casts the cantrip again, igniting a second pile of books.
“Were it not for Caleb’s regard, I would have already disposed of you like the viper you are,” Essek spits, taking a measured step forward. He enjoys the way Lucien flinches, apparently fighting the instinct to step back. “You are nothing but a low-life vandal. In fact, in Xhorhas, we have a word for people like you—”
Lucien affects a flirtatious pout. “What, ‘homewrecker?’”

Summary
Essek doesn’t date, and for good reason. It’s exhausting, the dance around feelings and pleasure, made worse by the shadow of his ill health. He’s perfectly content with the company of his Guides, their platonic exchange of intimacies fully serviceable. He doesn’t need anyone else.
Caleb Widogast is the Empire human making a valiant attempt towards involving himself in Rosohna’s kink scene. He shouldn’t be as charming as he is but Essek finds himself drawn to Caleb, caught in his gravity well, pulled past the event horizon against his will. He doesn’t quite mind, especially when Essek connects Caleb Widogast to Bren Ermendrud, the researcher on loan from Soltryce studying time travel under Essek’s purview here in the Marble Tomes.
Don’t we all have mistakes we wish to correct?
Essek has made many and, caught up in a whirlwind romance with a Dom perfect in all the ways he didn’t know he wanted, he makes many more.

Summary
He kisses Essek’s jaw, then the soft spot just shy of his ear. Essek hums and tips his head to guide his lips.
“I can tell you do not want to talk about it,” Caleb mumbles. He kisses the torn lobe of Essek’s ear where Jester has healed it closed; he’ll need to pierce it again sometime if he wants to replace the earring. Caleb thinks this, and moves to kiss his neck again. “But I am going to find it hard to sleep if I don't feel you next to me tonight.”In broad daylight, Essek is attacked. His friends do not know why or by whom until it is too late.
