“Why are you so stiff?,” he asked, squeezing their hands together. “What, scared somebody’s gonna think you actually like me?”
It came out as a joke, because everything did at first. Big, bright, a coin flip he always bet on.
Itrapped didn’t stop walking. His eyes flicked down, then ahead again. “Chance,” he said. “I know you like that sort of .. lovey dovey thing. But not where others can see, please?”
“Oh.” Chance’s mouth shaped the word before he could aim it at anything. His fingers unhooked automatically, obedient even when his chest wasn’t. He crammed his hand into his pocket like it had never been anywhere else. “Oh. Right. Yeah, sure. My bad.”
