The wrath of it has made him dangerous, causing years of isolation and, at twenty years old, his family to cast him out. Desperate, he comes to Seoul in search of a curse breaker to help him. Instead, he finds four boys who might just be able to give him the home he's been seeking his whole life.

Yeonjun sighs, slumping forward in his seat. He looks tired, broken. Defeated. Like he lost the battle he’s been fighting for so long and only the shell of him is left.
“You need to let me go,” he murmurs, confirming Taehyun’s fears. “There’s nothing left of me now.”
(One year ago, Yeonjun cradles Taehyun’s face in bloodstained hands. One year ago, Yeonjun presses his forehead to Taehyun’s and whispers you have to survive. One year ago, Yeonjun walks into the waiting arms of the Empire, sacrificing himself, and Taehyun feels something crack open in his chest that he barely understands.)
“I don’t believe that,” Taehyun argues. “You’re Yeonjun. You’ll always be Yeonjun, even if I have to help you remember.”

It’s probably not the best one-year anniversary celebration choice, putting them both in danger and breaking city rules, but this feels vital in a way that Yeonjun can’t explain. He’s been keeping this secret for so long now and he can’t share it with Soobin at home, where his parents are always fighting, or in any of their usual hangouts because their city is small and eyes are everywhere.
“It’s fine,” Soobin says now and his big hand curves over Yeonjun’s knee, a warm touch that makes Yeonjun shiver in spite of the summer heat permeating the car. “It’s not like we haven’t done this before.”
