“You know,” the shopkeeper says thoughtfully, looking at the stone in Lumine’s hand with a strange interest. “There’s a story behind that jewel too.”
“Oh, really?” Lumine gives her a strained smile because she sees Mona through the corner of her eye inspecting another glass orb that’ll probably cost another month of groceries. But Lumine doesn’t voice that because she has this thing with conflict where she will bend over backwards for literally any person in any situation to avoid it. This includes strangely spooky shopkeepers who seem a little too delighted to have a potential customer.
“They say that a God is trapped in there.”
There’s a tale that goes like this: there once was a God who challenged their Creator.
Except Lumine is neither a God, nor a Creator, nor a hero, ruler, sage, or some other Jungian archetype. No, Lumine is a burnt-out college kid who’s somehow managed to keep it together just enough to convince everyone she’s not on the verge of a mental breakdown every 4.7 seconds.
Oh, and also God is a gremlin.
Suffice to say, this tale is screwed.

Many were the myths and legends surrounding the mystical beings of ancient Teyvat. Tales of earth shattering feats, splendid miracles, and sky splitting calamities filled the mortal denizens minds, eliciting phantasies of what must have been a tumultuous and wonderful time, yet for as much as the people lived these fantastical stories, they were in the end just that - stories. In the modern day and age, amidst the steady march of progress and technological achievements, there was no room for gods, spirits, or any being of a supernatural nature, and outside of the few remaining bloodlines that had long since intermingled with humans, their presence in the mortal realm was all but gone. At least, that's how it should have been . .

Summary
Canon Divergence- discovering his powers and heritage early led to desperate measures to keep Rin alive, and he ends up following in his mother's footsteps, trying to find in the isolation of the wilderness what his place in the world might actually be. Keeping the rumors under control, with Father Fujimoto keeping tabs on the 'demon beast' of the forest, everything goes smoothly- until Shirou breaks a leg and they send out a new, younger exorcist to check on the situation.
Ryuuji's not sure what to make of the awkward recluse, and Rin's never had a conversation last longer than five minutes with anyone but his adoptive father since moving out here, but either way, even knowing he can't trust his secret to an outsider, something makes him wish he could. But nothing comes easily to a son of Satan, not even love- and who would really love him once they knew what he was?
