And he outright despises how easily Chase can rope him into it as well. These days itโs so easy for Buddyโs cheeks to heat up from a mere touch; itโs so simple to accept the stupid chocolate; itโs ridiculously effortless to forget himself - to drop from the pedestal of a wine-sipping Villainess and turn into a kid who can barely legally drink.

After three long, tedious years of being stuck in the same hospital bed, Nox decided he was done. Done with the doctors, and the needles, and the endless onslaught of hope. Done with all of it. At this point, the only thing he looked for was death.

For a moment it is simply quiet.
Then a thin, raspy, โCome in.โ answers him.
Chase takes a calming breath, in and out. He pushes the door open and lets the soft wash of light carry him in.
The Queen is resting on her sickbed, surrounded by shadows, with only the light of a small lamp hanging above her head. It casts her in gentle spotlight, like a lantern sunk in a deep ocean. When she sees him, her eyes widen slightly and her mouth parts.

โYouโre not supposed to be here.โ he says dumbly.
The raccoon sniffs his shoe. Then it looks up at him with tiny beady eyes that say 'I know what you are.'
Despite not being fluent in raccoon-nese, Nox has a fine tuned sense for when someoneโs talking shit and he glares at pint size, daring it to start a scrap it's gonna lose.
This decision will soon come to haunt him.
