Summary
One moment, Richard was standing in his home; the next, the floorboards under his feet melted and he was plunged into murky darkness, his limbs trapped in liquid cement, slow and weak as he struggled to reorient himself.
Then, an invisible string wound itself around the bones of his ribcage, threading through the gaps, securing its grip on his chest, and pulled. He could almost see the thread, thin and glinting silver, as he was dragged into oblivion, the muffled roaring of wind ringing in his ears.
Richard’s eyes cracked open to the familiar sight of a giant owl sculpture. It loomed over him, water trickling from its downturned beak and down into the basin by its feet.
