As if he recognised Impulse’s apprehension, Skizz reduced his wide grin to a friendly smile. “I saw you when I walked in and thought all your piercings were super sick. And I didn’t know anyone, so I figured I may as well talk to someone new,” His wings shuddered slightly. “I hope that’s okay with you?”
Impulse was shocked at how friendly Skizz was. In the three years he had been at this high school and the many years of knowing some of the other students from grade school, no one had ever paid this much attention to him. “Oh, that’s nice of you to say, and yeah sure it’s fine,” he responded, hoping his pause wasn’t too noticeable.
“Okay, that’s great! See you around, homie!” Skizz chirped before picking up his bag and walking out of class, leaving Impulse there to contemplate what just happened to him.
or: impulse has spent his high school career avoiding attention from everybody, but what happens when someone actually wants to know him?

She tosses aside the growing unease, hands quivering as she holds the phone to her ear. “Hello?”
“Hello, Pearl,” A modulated voice calls down the line, absent of any audible emotion.
Pearl’s body freezes in place, heart stopping instantly. “Who is this?” She stammers out.
“Why, I’m just here to say hello!” Cheeriness is present in their word choice but not in their tone. “Don’t you want a friend, Pearl?”
“I’d rather not,” She laughs nervously. “I’m gonna hang up now!”
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Immediate menace penetrates their voice, making her shoulder muscles tense and her heart rate pick up to an alarming pace.
Tears prick at her eyes, practically burning them from their sockets. What kind of sick prank is this?
Voice trembling, she croaks out, “Why is that?”
“Because I’m upstairs.”

“C’mon, dude!” Skizz says insistently. “I know you, there’s no way you’re just gonna get used to being beat within an inch of your life.”
“I can get used to it when I look the way I do.”
Skizz sighs sadly, brows furrowed. “Well, maybe I’m just sick of seeing my friend covered in bruises. At least I was here to help this time.”
Impulse can’t begrudge him that. Although being referred to as a ‘friend’ does hit a very sensitive spot. One that he does not intend to reveal right now, no matter how much he wishes to.
