It doesn’t take long for Arun to forget all the things he used to know about himself, to be reliant upon the slavers’ incomplete records for his last name, his birthday, the name of his village.
They don’t pass this information on to the brothel owner. The next time he loses it, he can’t get it back.

That face that let him get away with anything. That hateful, repugnant face. He brought up his other hand, still coated with Armand’s blood and dead skin, and began burning away at the other side, too. He stroked the reveal of his Companion’s jawbone–truly, no one was invincible.
He was trying to scream, but he couldn’t. But let him. Let him try to scream, and make him feel trapped. Just as trapped as Claudia. He did that, didn’t he? He trapped her. He killed her. And he was sobbing, having to feel the consequence of it.
OR
Louis wanted to burn Armand, and Armand was going to let him.

“Don’t laugh,” Armand says quietly.
