After a few attempts, Arthur sighs and sticks the notebook in his trouser pocket and pulls Eames up out of the chair. His hand is dry and smooth, and Eames’ palm smells like vanilla and citrus after he lets go.

It was neither a death sentence nor a terminal illness, and even those he’d beat before.
