Summary
Yuri hits his breaking point after a career ending injury, crushing Otabek by the thought of losing him forever.
I can’t do this anymore
The past year had been what nightmares were born from, but he thought it was much worse. He had the world in the palm of his hand, was on top of his game. But one night and a wrong decision had it crashing down in minutes.
He leaned against the bathtub and closed his eyes, coming to terms with his plan of action. He had nothing left to live for. His career had been cut short, most he considered friends had left his life following his tragic accident. He had isolated himself from those who remained by his side, snapping at them every time he saw them. It wasn’t fair to them, and he knew they didn’t deserve to bear the brunt of his anger.
Therapy hadn’t helped him at all. His psychologist gave him ways to get over his toxic feelings and anger, but he was too consumed with rage. Considering it a waste of time, he had stopped attending his sessions a couple weeks ago.
That’s when he decided on his final act, one last thing the world would remember him by.

When Otabek was given his first assignment in the Introductory Carer Program, he naively assumed that his debut case would be an easy one. Instead, he was paired with Yuri Plisetsky, a boy who never left his house and was something of a mystery and a point of pain for his plethora of carers he'd chased away.
Initially, Otabek was skeptic. Never before had he met somebody quite so difficult to get through to, but he wouldn't allow himself to be discouraged. It felt like some distant dream, the memory of staring at the sharp spike of his own bone slicing through his thigh, his knee bent in a direction it wasn’t supposed to go; of gushes of crimson blood pooling underneath him; of laying on his back on the ice, the shock of its cold surface the only thing keeping him conscious; of listening to Mila and 20,000 spectators scream in horror together; of staring up at the ceiling of the rink, wondering if it would be the last thing he saw.
Of feeling strangely at peace with the fact that it might be.
Three months later, though, he wished he could go back to that moment. Wished he could tell the medical personnel to slow down, come to him just a little bit later, let him bleed just a little bit more.
Dying on the ice would have been better than rotting away without it.
