Summary
Peter's concern increases as he notices the sudden drop in Aunt May's normal upbeat personality. She had simply said she probably had some sort of cold or flu, but Peter sensed something deeper that he couldn't really grasp. On what seemed like a perfectly normal and typical summer patrol, Peter makes his way back to his apartment only to find out that one of his worst nightmares was coming true.
And he was not even remotely prepared for the events that would take place.
(Or, Aunt May becomes seriously sick and is near death, and Peter seeks comfort in his father figure and mentor, Tony Stark. But, everything soon goes from bad to worse in only a matter of days.)

Peter immediately tensed as a gentle hand landed on his shoulder from behind.

Summary
The last thing Peter remembered is the alarm bells inside the school blaring at an unacceptably loud frequency. Everything was dark. He was confused, in pain, and in utter shock of what was happening at his own school. He then wondered, his now reddened eyes filling up with more tears, if he was going to die here... to never see the light of day again.
But a certain billionaire was not about to let that happen.

No - not when the sharpest mind of the 21st century also happened to come into contact with the deadliest amount of gamma radiation known to man five years ago.

This can’t be real.
How can it be real?
Horrible flashes of Prague, Molten Man and Beck burn themselves into the front of his mind but Peter shakes them away. Fire isn’t something that happens to him. It can’t be. It happens to people who leave oil on the stovetop for too long, people who smoke carelessly, people whose houses have faulty wiring.
He's just meant to throw himself into these peoples’ lives for a while to save their cats, their photo albums, bring everything to safety.
It’s not meant to happen to this house, not anywhere near where Morgan or Pepper or Tony are…
Oh god.
