“Do you… do you know where you are?”
“No,” Peter whispers. “Do I know you?”
The man smiles. It's a poor disguise for heartbreak. “Yeah, kid. You do. You did.”
There’s a beat.
“I’m Tony.”

Summary
The world seemed to slow as Tony took in the face now exposed to the open air.
Brown eyes wide with alarm. A mess of curls he instantly recognized.
Tony’s breath caught.
It was him. The same face he had seen in the mirror. His soulmate.

Summary
Peter didn’t wait for him to finish. His fist landed squarely on Steve’s jaw with a satisfying crack. The mic went silent as Steve stumbled back, blinking in shock.
“What the hell—” Steve started, but Peter didn’t give him the chance to speak. He grabbed the mic, his heart pounding in his chest.
“You don’t get to talk about him like that,” Peter’s voice rang out, steady despite the rush of adrenaline. “You don’t get to reduce him to some outdated caricature while standing on a stage funded by his generosity. You don’t get to ignore everything he’s done. Everything he’s sacrificed.”
Steve’s eyes narrowed, but Peter wasn’t backing down. He stepped forward, staring him down. “He’s saved the world more times than anyone can count, and you—" Peter pointed a finger, voice growing sharp with each word. "You think you can just make jokes at his expense? Think again.”

Summary
Tony tuned back in just in time to hear Peter say, “Now, on behalf of all the ladies wondering, I’d like to ask: is there a special someone in your life?”
“No,” Tony said simply, “but there can be.”
He gave Peter a suggestive look, leaving no room for doubt as to what he was implying.

Summary
Tony knows exactly what this is. First big breakup, go for a fling with a completely inappropriate person. It’s basically a cliché. He kind of thought Peter was better than that, but apparently being brilliant and one of the bravest people on the face of the planet doesn’t mean he’s immune from being a stupid college student who makes stupid college student mistakes.
AKA Tony is sure this is just a fling, and he deals with that about as well as you’d expect.
