Summary
They watched the show for a moment. It felt incredibly weird. Bobby couldn’t even describe it if he wanted to. He was watching Buck and Eddie- on a TV show. And it wasn’t like when they’d been on Hotshots, where they’d been booked for a cameo, had learned a script and shot the actual scenes, this time there was just…no explanation.
“Well, they’re definitely not acting, it has to be something else,” Hen said, as if she’d read his mind.
“Yeah,” Chimney agreed and turned to Darcy to supply her with the important information: “Buck’s terrible at acting.” Darcy nodded like all of this made any sense.
or: Eddie and Buck live a quiet suburban life in Westview. Something isn’t right, though.

Summary
Look, it’s just- of course, rationally he knew, right? He knew that his grandparents were his dad’s parents, that’s literally how it works.
He just never really- realized what that meant.
But there are tears in his father’s eyes. And Chris remembers something he saw on TikTok a while ago: It’s his dad’s first time living too.
And maybe…maybe he really has been a little hard on him. Shutting him out like that.
“What, Eddie, of course we want you to be hap-” Abuela tries, but Chris’s dad doesn’t let her.
“No,” he interrupts. “No, that’s not true. If you wanted me to be happy, you would’ve helped me. You would’ve let Christopher stay with you for…a month, maybe, to cool down, to get some distance, to get the space he needs. But then you…you would’ve tried, at least. To get us talking. To fix this. To mend what I broke.”
He sounds devastated. So incredibly devastated. And Chris can’t help but think that…his dad kinda has a point there.
Or: Eddie goes to Texas, Chris overhears something he shouldn’t have, Helena Diaz starts feeling as guilty as she fucking should, and somehow, somewhere in between it all turns out okay.

Summary
An Eddie sighting was rare too, and every time she actually spotted him he looked miserable and worn out. He had a mustache now, though, and Marisa wasn’t the biggest mustache fan (Jerry had tried once and she’d immediately made him shave it) but it kind of suited him. Made him look way gayer than before, though.
His husband was the one Marisa saw the most, he came and went more, getting groceries and take out and going for a run every now and then. Sometimes there was a strange man with him, older, but also buff and she guessed it was probably a co-worker or something they got along with.
or: Eddie Diaz is one of the more interesting neighbors Marisa has. She can't quite figure him out, but she knows he has the cutest kid in the world, really bad luck sometimes and he's happily married to his hot firefighter husband.

Eddie realizes he’s handling this surprisingly well. He should be freaking out way more. Maybe he’s just been through too much crazy shit to actually question anything anymore.
“Oh no! But I’m very glad you ask. I’m here to get you to face yourself. And for that-” She clears her throat and the next couple of words she says come across very memorized. “Tonight you will be haunted by three spirits. And without-”
“Wait, wait, wait,” Eddie interrupts. Because this is ridiculous. “You’re here to Christmas Carol me?”
Shannon smiles. “Pretty much, yeah.” She shrugs.
or: Eddie gets visited by three ghosts who help him realize that maybe, just maybe, he's not as straight as he thinks.

And look, he’s a first responder. He’s seen his fair share of victims of that wretched disease, some getting wheeled into emergency surgery, some denying care because they’d rather choke to death on their love than to lose it; it’s a devastating, heartbreaking thing.
So hypothetically, he knows. What it is, where it quite literally stems from. What it means.
It’s just. That this doesn’t make any fucking sense.
He has a boyfriend. He’s in a happy relationship.
How the hell can he have Hanahaki?
Or: Buck starts coughing up flowers. It doesn’t make sense to him, until it does.

Eddie is - he’s straight, okay? And Buck is way past wanting things he can’t have…way past begging for scraps of affection and attention and love. He refuses to ever be that person again, even for Eddie. So. So Eddie wasn’t in love with Buck, and Buck wasn’t - isn’t, can’t be - in love with Eddie, and all of this is just. It’s ridiculous. Impossible. Unbelievable.
“I’m not in love with my best friend,” Buck says, but the words feel strange in his mouth.

Buck's eyes widen, obviously surprised that Eddie remembered that. See, look? He's recovering remarkably quickly. He'll have his full memory back in no time.
"Your husband," Buck repeats and Chris, for some reason, starts giggling.
"My husband," Eddie agrees happily.

Buck squints, still clearly not following.
Eddie swallows. His throat’s dry. “If you put your cowboy hat on someone, it means you’re claiming them. Like—it’s a thing. A way of saying… you’re mine.”
Or: Buck finds Eddie’s old cowboy hat while unpacking boxes and puts it on without thinking. Eddie knows what it means.

For a second, Buck’s sure he must have heard him wrong. Waits for confirmation. Looks around the room. Waits for someone to laugh, slap him on the back, and say, ‘Man, we really got you with that one. Good joke, Eddie.’
But it never comes.
