Yet he can’t find it in him to stop. He enjoys it too much. Having Harry’s attention, feeling Harry’s hands on him. He likes it when Harry bites blotchy red bruises onto Ben’s skin, stamps marks in the shape of his fingers onto Ben’s thin waist and plump thighs. He wants to satisfy Harry. Even if he has to break his own heart to do it.
“I’ll be careful,” Ben says. A little white lie. Whether it’s meant for his friends or himself, Ben isn’t sure. “I’m always careful.”

The words hung in the air, a stark reminder of the chasm that was growing between them. Harry had never felt so torn. So he hid it, didn’t let anyone know how truely miserable he was. He handled his shit, because Buck was tough. He was always a tough kid, always pushing his sorrow and pain away, hid his hurt because he didn’t want to be a burden. Pushed it down and away until it was almost non existent. Because he thought he deserved it anyway.
He needed to pretend. So he smiled and worked and did what he could, and did it well, hit all his marks, grinning the whole time as if he was happy, as if he was winning, but it didn’t stop the gaping hollowness of nothing that appeared in his chest and swallowed him whole.
