Samira groans, shaking her head. This isn't going to work. She needs to get up and figure out where the hell she is, why she just woke up with an intubation tube down her throat. Why she can't remember anything. When she goes to move her limbs, she finds very quickly that she can't.
Incorrect. What is two plus two?
"F-four…" The word tumbles out of her mouth in a way she hardly understands, but thankfully, it seems to be good enough for the mystery robotic voice.

It’s like Samira’s scent was condensed and distilled into its purest form, like she’s suddenly immersed in a saccharine flower field that stretches as far as the eye can see.
There’s something else too, something rich and warm that saturates the air around her. Emery recognizes it immediately. It’s unmistakable.

Emery and Samira are perfectly content to avoid each other when they both end up at a conference in San Diego... until they end up in adjacent rooms at the hotel. “HA! I can’t wait to meet her!” Emery interrupts Yolanda, clapping her hands together with glee. After a brief pause, “wait, is she hot?”

Everything with Emery was supposed to just be some summer fling, something thrilling and fun while the campus was a ghost town and her thesis advisor was away for a couple of months. Dragging herself out of the warmth of Emery’s bed and flinching when her feet hit the cold floor while the first weak rays of winter light peeked in through the blinds wasn’t part of the plan.
