“What?” Louis asks back.
“You were throwing him into walls, recently,” Daniel says. “That's the last update I got on the whole situation.”

It feels like every single one of his worst comedowns and withdrawals rolled into one, and then doused in acid for good measure. He grits his teeth so hard against it that he tastes blood.
He remembers Louis describing the death of his own body during the interview, his voice placid and even as he recounted the experience, the horror of it communicated from a respectable distance, a gentle remove.
Talk about underselling it.

Instead of mastering his supernatural skills he finds himself pacing the floor of a sleek, impersonal rental with Armand -Arun- sobbing into the shoulder of his shirt and begging not to be left alone again. The irony of their role reversal is not lost on him: the ancient immortal childlike and miserable while his infant fledgling cares for his regressed maker. He doesn't know what Armand-Arun-Amadeo needs, but he’ll do his best to provide it.

Decades ago, this would have never taken place. Daniel would have been too weak to do any real damage, to move Armand without the other’s help. Here he was now, tossing Armand around the room like he wasn’t five hundred years old, like he wasn’t a powerful Devil, as if he were a mere mortal. It was worth it, to feel his shoulder blades crack, to feel the blood flow out of wounds, if it meant he got to see his boy's face the entire time.
Daniel tries to find his maker, but what's his plan once he gets there? Apparently have a fight with him on Night Island.

He is almost sure Daniel is going to laugh at him, to mock him for such a weak, pathetic confession.
But he doesn't. Instead, he presses a finger on Armand's lips and smiles faintly. "That's better." His tone is almost gentle.

Amber eyes gaze up at Daniel, an unreadable expression on their owner’s injured face. When Armand speaks, his voice is strangely raspy: “You’re leaving too.” What should be a statement comes out lilted like a question. Daniel wonders if he’s on the edge of tears. He also decides he doesn’t care.
“Damn straight,” Daniel says, ready to make a break to the other room for the smoking remains of his computer. He forces his legs to walk casually, appearing as unbothered as possible to get through the door frame and away from this monster. But Daniel being Daniel, he can’t resist lobbing one more bomb: “Good riddance, boss,” he throws back, smug as ever.
