Tears began to drop on the ground. Against himself, Armand looked up. She had her back turned to him, but she was still in that yellow dress, scuffed and bloody, and clearly bunching it up with her hands in frustration. No–agony would be more accurate. “I mean fuck, Armand, what about me?”
Armand was chosen. Claudia was not. He knew the anguish she was expressing so well, but it no longer needed to be his own. What happened next was cruel, but Armand had already piled plenty of cruelties onto this girl. A small, self-satisfied smile crept onto his face. At least he was not receiving the very shortest end of the stick.

He had never questioned why it happened or what caused it. He knew enough of the modern era to know that an answer was likely out there somewhere, but what good would such a thing do him?
Waking up in an unfamiliar bed in an apartment that seemed only vaguely familiar was all the more disconcerting for how long it had been since it had happened to Armand.
He tried to orient himself. He needed to put just enough of the pieces together to know enough to fake his way through his next few interactions and then it would be as if it never happened.

It was why, no matter how hard they’d tried, their blossoming romance was always meant to decay. And that was the way of the world, wasn’t it? Vampires were the only thing that aged and yet did not die–but the flowers brought to you under the balcony did. The love that propelled their purchase did.
