Summary
What Maurice failed to understand was that Jack had found a compromise with himself, a careful balance that allowed him to indulge his desires just enough to survive them while still believing forgiveness remained within reach. He didn’t understand that, for all the affection Jack carried for him, for all the longing he buried beneath restraint and prayer, there was still something he loved more.
Or : Jack and Maurice have a more than casual friendship but Jack keeps hurting him out of fear.

Maurice’s cheering faltered, but Jack barely noticed.
“I’ve got him,” muttered Roger.
The shorter blond strolled over until his hand touched a blue hold. His Nike shoes, which were covered in dirt, lifted to settle on red and orange ones.
“Roger!” Hissed Bill, looking around with wide eyes. “You can’t do that without a harness! The counselors made that very clear!”
“He’s right there,” deadpanned Roger, nodding his head up at Jack who was only a few holds away. “I’ll be fine.”
After some climbing, he reached a position where his hand was only centimeters from Jack’s foot.
Or : A rewrite of the scene where Roger helps Jack with the climbing but this time at a modern summer camp and with some psychotic thoughts.

Summary
Being anything but warm on the island was unusual. Everyone knew that. It was the kind of place where the sun burned, leaving your hair dripping with sweat and the sand under your feet flaming.
So when Maurice began nudging Jack late at night, the last thing the blond expected was for the boy to complain about being cold.
“Jack,” whispered Maurice, shaking his shoulders.
Jack groaned, weakly attempting to shove the brunette’s hand off of him and squeezing his closed eyes even tighter. He had a big hunt tomorrow! He needed his sleep!
Maurice didn’t let up, continuing to softly pull at the boy and prod. “Jack.”
“Shut up, Maurice!” Jack hissed, mostly unconscious. It wasn’t said cruelly, but with tired annoyance.
“Jack.”
With a huff, the taller one pushed himself up a bit, leaning back on both arms and squinting up at his friend. “What!?”
Maurice was kneeling to his side, brown hair falling over his face as he leaned his head down.
“I’m cold,” Maurice whispered, a little guilty.
Jack’s blue eyes widened a little, waking up a bit more.
Or : Maurice gets cold at night on the island and Jack holds him.

Every Sunday the church doors would open and the nave would fill with multitudes of people all brought together by their joined faith.
Which meant that once a week, Jack, Maurice and Roger would waste their mornings away in the chapel’s basement, all under the guides of Sunday school. And while the lower level may be large, it was by no means anything fancy. The tiles were old and cracked with white paint peeling off the corners, and the tone of yellow used for the walls gave off the opposite effect of happiness. A large table was located off to one side, bibles laying flat against it with dust covering the hardpage covers. On the other side of the room were two rundown couches and an old tv placed upon a small desk. A controller, as well as a stack of movie discs piled against it.
There hadn’t been any new additions to their little basement group in years. Or, at least not any that stayed. This left the three boys fending for themselves against the trials of boredom.
Until Simon showed up.

“Do you want to elaborate?” Deadpanned Mr. Cameron.
“I do every shitty job down in the cut. How else ‘M I supposed to treat my boy over here?” Barry replied, slinging his arm around Rafe. “I work on vehicles the most though, bro.”
