Summary
Dean sighs in relief as he finally closes the door behind him and is able to tug his tie off.
Running a lucrative business is hard work, but worth it for the payoff. Especially on days like today. He smiles to himself and rolls up his sleeves as he moves to the more private rooms in the back of the mansion. He keeps his workshops back here, along with… other rooms.
He stops by the greenhouse to collect the newest mature specimen, grunting as he hefts the pot onto the dolly. Dean carefully wheels it out of the greenhouse and down the long, sloping hallway to his labs. His newest toy is laying prone on the thin mattress pad on the floor of lab room 4, and doesn’t stir as he opens the door to wrestle the specimen into place. Dean bolts the pot down the floor so it stays in place, then steps back to admire it.
The plant’s shimmery purple-blue hue is gorgeous along it’s tall, wide leaves. When unfolded, the leaves would be large enough for Dean to sit comfortably on. Not that he’d be the one doing so today. It’s what’s inside the massive, closed up bud that has made him a rich man after all.
He gently strokes at the leaves with a gloved hand.
Then he steps over to inspect his newest toy.

Summary
Castiel zips through the trench as quickly as he can. He’s not far from the kelp forest where he’s taken to nesting and it’s been a fruitful day while he was out treasure hunting. His bag thumps clumsily against his back when he abruptly runs into something.
He looks up to find that he’s bumped against someone instead. The stranger, another mer, grins at him.
“Hello, pretty.” He says.

Summary
The engagement had been a surprise to him- not necessarily that it was happening, but the speed at which things were moving between their two countries.
He’s come to greet the visitors, expecting at least a small retinue or a few people to oversee the legality.
The only ones he finds are two guards, and the drawn, wan omega prince- Castiel- between them. The first thing Dean notices are the prince’s eyes when he glances up at him for a moment. The second is how exhausted he seems, like he hadn’t slept in days. Castiel still holds himself up like all nobles are taught to, but Dean can tell he’s likely only upright from his own pride.
Dean tunes back in to what his father is saying just in time to offer a shallow bow in thanks to the guards before they leave. One of them grins knowingly at him before giving his fiance a lecherous once over as he turns to go. The omega prince twitches slightly as the guards turn. Dean is sure that in a less trained person, it would have been a full body shudder of revulsion.

Summary
“You have served well, Alpha Winchester. For your work you will be receiving a gift before your retirement.”
Dean doesn’t trust the sharply coiffed woman an inch, but he’s far too exhausted to protest. He just nods in acknowledgment. Her smile widens, but look no more genuine for it.
“Excellent. Follow me.”
She leads him down a hall he’s never been down before in all his years having to return to the Center. She stops in front of one of the widely spaced doors and unlocks it with her palm.
“Enjoy.” She says as he steps inside. Something cold touches his neck as he passes her.
The door locks behind him. Almost instantly the scent of another person in the room hits him.
Dean stands rooted to the spot, his stomach dropping somewhere between his knees.
No. -

Summary
Dean tries not to stare across the hall.
He can’t decide how to feel about the stranger he’s betrothed to. The guy is good looking, beautiful even, which was kind of expected, given that his family background relies on good looks as an export to marry into other noble or royal families. He’s also not even looked over at Dean once. Is he not tempted to even take a peek at the person he’s supposed to marry tomorrow? Or maybe he did and decided he doesn’t like what he sees. Or maybe the rumors about the haughtiness of their country are true, and Dean is marrying a self-righteous ass. Or-
“He looks nervous, don’t you think? Doesn’t even look like there’s anything on his plate.” Sam does actually sound worried.
Dean looks and sees the omega prince is just pushing the sparse food on his plate around, occasionally lifting a mouthful to mimic eating. Anyone who wasn’t watching him closely wouldn’t even be able to tell.
“Probably just nerves.” Dean tries to reassure them both. It doesn’t quite land.
They’ve both grown up hearing the whispers of how omegas are treated in the Distant Lands after all. -

Summary
Castiel lands in the shady clearing with a sigh. It’s been a long flight back to his home flock from his blessings assignment and he’s still got at least another day’s travel left. If he were from the flocks of higher ranks it would be much easier, he thinks, since they’re so much larger it probably would only take them a couple days flight to travel the same distance that takes him eight suns. He sits down on a rocky outcrop and spreads his tired wings out to rest in the sun before he grooms them. It’s a pleasant day and he yawns against his will, eyes drooping.
A short nap before finding a place to nest for the night wouldn’t hurt.

Summary
Prince Castiel arrives back later than intended, quickly riding directly to the stables instead of just handing the horse off.
“Let me help you, your highness.” A deep voice practically purrs as warm hands grip his waist.
He’s slid out of the saddle by strong arms, his backside dragged slowly down the muscular front of the stablehand assisting him. Cas sucks in a breath as his whole body is momentarily pressed tightly to the other man’s, his tight riding pants leaving no room for misinterpreting the rigid lump briefly rolled against his ass. The stablehand releases him and steps back, green eyes glittering as he grins.
“Thank you.” Cas says, turning to go. “Shit, I won’t even have time to bathe before dinner.”
A short yelp bursts out of him when a hand squeezes his ass firmly. He whirls around, glaring, but the stablehand is pointedly busy with his horses tack. He shoots another caviler grin at Cas.
“Better hurry, don’t want to be late for dinner, your highness.”
Cas decides he doesn’t have time to deal with roguish castle staff and hurries away.

Summary
“You better find a use for that pretty mouth or I might just forget Capt’ns orders.”
Cas bares his teeth at him instead. The alpha laughs again and pulls something from his pocket. He grabs Cas’s jaw and squeezes painfully until he’s forced to open his mouth. Quick as a whip, the alpha shoves a large circle of metal in his mouth and straps in around his head. A tab of some kind sticks out from the metal, pinning his tongue in place.
“Camp whore is open for business lads!” He calls, unbuckling his belt.

Summary
Dean freezes, the smile dropping as his gaze darts between Cas’s eyes. A faint frown fades in as he leans back.
“You’re… my mate.” Dean looks concerned now. “You couldn’t tell?”
Cas just stares at him.
“A mate? Like… animals?” He can feel the panic creeping back in, but strangely, he doesn’t feel scared of Dean himself.

Summary
“I still don’t understand why I am being summoned to the high castle.” Castiel crosses his arms as he faces his brother. He had been sent instructions to pack quickly for an extended time and hastily bundled into the carriage the they now travel down the uneven road in.
“As I said, you will be informed when we arrive.” Michael holds out a sealed flask. “Here, drink this. I know you get motion sick in carriages, so I planned ahead.”
Castiel takes it with a smile. Michael gives him a strained one in return, watching as he takes a few sips before looking away out the window. The lands pass by, slowly turning from worn, war-torn land, to rolling hills and clearly prospering villages.
Castiel slowly sips the tea, not noticing how heavy his eyes are until the nearly empty cup falls from his lax grip. He lurches forward clumsily to pick it up, nearly falling out of his seat. Michael helps him back up, leaning him back into his seat and carefully propping him up with a cushion.
“Wha’ is…” Even speaking is hard, his words slurring together.
Michael leans forward and presses a kiss to his forehead.
“Please know if there were any other option I would have taken it. I’m sorry.” -

Summary
The angelic high court fell years ago, when Dean was a child, and many of them had sought sanctuary in Winchester lands. A few of them even live in the castle as members of the court. There had been a period of adjustment, the angels learning to live with humans and vice versa, but they had slowly become steady allies. Angels were a proud and powerful people, and loyal to a fault if they found a worthy cause.
To see one of them all-but enslaved to a fool like this makes Dean’s blood boil.

(In which a cup of tea is the first of the unexpected events.)

Summary
Castiel knows that his marriage to King Winchester is first and foremost a political alliance. He knows it. And he is grateful that they have managed to be friends at least. They are able to talk easily and have shared interests and his husband values Castiel's input on matters of state as he navigates leading the land through the long running war.
Castiel just sometimes wished for something more. Foolish, he knows, but the childish part of him that always dreamed of being swept up in romance aches some days.
