Soon, they’re tangling together in the air, a writhing mass of limbs against limbs, metal against skin. When they burst through the ceiling, shattering yet another structure that prevented them from reaching higher than they were permitted, he looks down on Jayce’s trembling form. He wonders if this is how the Pilties felt seeing him limp through their streets after his partner, pretending he didn’t know that they only kept him around because he was Jayce’s favorite pet.
Viktor will be a much more attentive master than Jayce had been back then.

incredible, electric, impeccable pacing, the type of fic where you can’t look away even for a single word
this fic’s depiction of the barou-isagi dynamic has become my absolute truth and the choreography of the matches made me feel like i was reading the manga again. the duo’s destructive, all-consuming mutual desire for each other and for the goal,, the way they inevitably collide has been captured so perfectly…… but what killed me the most was barou admitting to himself in the semi-finals that he just really liked playing soccer with isagi… fucked me up
idk if i’ll read anything else in 2024 that tops this
loved isagi in this, loved barou in this too, loved oliver actually, and ego too, loved everyone. their voices were all so them??? every time barou had to spend more than three seconds agonizing over isagi i was over the moon honestly. and the crazy unrepentant egoist motherfucker that is isagi is laid out so well… so incredibly well-written, like a love letter to blue lock. i’m still reeling

However, Lyney is more than just a magician donning a top hat; he embodies the concept well, but he’s only human. Capable of performing, just as capable of being hurt.
And sometimes, he looks at her strangely. After his performance ends, when the afterglow has worn off, when the adrenaline has dissipated, he always glances at her, a little sad of eye.

There's the familiar panic, of course - the surety that she messed up, that the act was slipping; the urge to claw out her composure until it tore her face into a smile. The old fatigue, too, but that had always been the easiest to push down. "Mir– Focalors. The, um, Hydro Archon. She's gone?"
"...yes," Neuvillette says, with a complex expression. "She was condemned to death by the Oratrice, and bore it's judgment to fulfill the prophecy. Her role in Fontaine has at last concluded, Lady Furina." He looks at her again, gaze softening further. "...as has yours."
Furina talks to Neuvillette after her trial, after the flood, and after her role is finally over.
(An extra scene at the end of the 4.2 Archon Quest, before the Traveler meets Neuvillette at the entrance to the Fortress of Meropide)

You see the one making his Olympic debut before he’s even turned twenty? After matches, we would walk home together. He doesn’t like to hold hands but he likes to pull you close. We’d walk with our arms linked close and stars dotting the sky. It always smelled of cherry trees.
Kageyama must be on top of the world, right now. Shouyou isn’t there with him.
It feels bittersweet, in a way. He’s not there, but he will be. Just because he took a detour doesn’t mean he’s stopped running; he might be taking the long way home, but he’ll get there when the time is right. He made a promise, after all.
He sends Kageyama a text. I saw you today. You were amazing.
Then he races.
Or, Hinata Shouyou takes the long way home. Featuring the universal experience of being other, untranslatable words, Carnival-induced catharsis, and of course, hunger.
