Summary
In 1813, Colin went to bed in Bridgerton House the day before Daphne's societal debut. When he awakens after what seems like a normal night’s sleep, he's in bed with Penelope, and everything seems strangely altered. Mel understood how conception occurred. She understood how to prevent it, though the knowledge had never been personally relevant before. She knew it was unwise to have unprotected sex with someone if you didn’t know both partners were negative for STIs and if you weren’t willing to risk pregnancy.
But nothing had been wise about fucking Dr. Langdon in the bathroom of the ED.
It was only a few weeks later when Mel realized her period was six days late. It didn’t take a genius or special medical training to make a likely diagnosis.

Maybe, if Mel had turned, started walking, and begun dissecting the case aloud, Frank wouldn’t have done what he did.
Or possibly, it had been inevitable from the day he came back, and she told him he’d never let her down and that she didn’t want him to leave. Or perhaps, it became inescapable before that, back to the first shift they worked together, which had been the worst day of his life, but she had been an effervescent bright spot amid his humiliation and defeat.
Instead of all the things she could have done, Mel’s breath caught in her throat. She looked up at him, her face soft and wide open with trust and something he wasn’t willing to name but looked an awful lot like adoration. She whispered, “You make me incredible.”
...He glanced up, checking to see who was around before he did something monumentally stupid, like kiss her in front of all their colleagues. But there was no one nearby or looking their way, and he didn’t realize what he was doing until he did it. He grasped Mel’s hand, spun her around, and tugged her with him into the handicapped bathroom, locking the door behind them.

Frank laughs at the absurdity of residents trying to get their attendings to hook up, but it’s like a lightbulb goes off for her.
