Eddy thinks, naively, that maybe they'll be best friends forever, but Brett becomes a violinist and Eddy doesn't; they've left each other behind, and their careers take them across the world to success and fame, two parallel lines always moving forward but never meeting.

天底下再丑再凶的鬼，也终究敌不过穷鬼。有一穷鬼浑身上下就剩一把琴，口袋里剩了小半张饼，圆边还破了个豁口。杨博尧翻过越山的时候碰见一只狐狸，奄奄一息，眼看快要饿死了。他于心不忍，只得掰下来一小块饼子沾了水塞到狐狸嘴边。那只毛色火红的狐狸嗅了嗅饼子，颇为嫌弃地别开了头。“不至于吧……都快饿死了还嫌弃吗？”杨博尧悻悻收回手，无奈地翻开自己的口袋给狐狸看：“咱俩多少算是天涯沦落人了……你想吃好的我也没有。”狐狸这才犹豫着啃了两口饼。见狐狸吃了东西，杨博尧便不再停留，继续向前走。
